The Vice-Chancellors of Central University of Kashmir and Jammu Saturday decided to strengthen both the institutions of higher learning through mutual cooperation in academics and administrative affairs.

Jointly chairing the meeting of Deans of Schools, Heads and Coordinators of the Departments of the Central University of Kashmir, CUK Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din and CUJ Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ashok Aima underscored the need of standardisation of the curriculum in both the institutions.

“There is a dire need of standardising the curriculum in both the institutions before starting the transfer of credits system (implementation of Choice Based Credit System) in both the institutions,” both Vice-Chancellors said, adding that the faculty members of both the varsities should come to common terms with respect to the curriculum to be taught in both the institutions.

“They should thoroughly examine and scrutinise the curriculum of common disciplines taught in both the Central Universities and frame the best curriculum, which ultimately would benefit the students’ community at large” a CUK statement quoted the VCs as having said.

The Vice-Chancellors also agreed to hold video-conference between the students and faculty of both the institutions every month on a particular topic. “This will be beneficial to the faculty and students of both the institutions as it will generate a debate and discussion on the topic and will give the participants a chance to give their point of view,” they said.

They said both the universities would jointly conduct seminars, workshops and other events in near future.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mehraj ud Din said the university would constitute a Best Teacher Award to be awarded to one of the faculty member every year for excelling in the teaching and learning process.

He asked the faculty members to come up with proposals for faculty and students exchange programme between the CUK and CUJ.
