‘Substandard’ Pesticides Seized in South Kashmir

Authorities seized ‘substandard’ pesticides illegally imported into Jammu and Kashmir.

Police officials of Bihi-Bagh in Kulgam District of South Kashmir told Kashmir life that during a routine checking of documents of vehicles in the area on Friday they seized large quantity of substandard pesticides illegally imported in to Kashmir and transported to different areas for sale to farmers and fruit growers.

Station House officer (SHO) Bihi-Bagh, Muneeb-Ul-Islam said that a Police naka stopped a truck and asked its driver for documents but while “checking documents, we suspected that the truck was carrying pesticides and after examining it was found that truck was laden with huge quantity of substandard pesticides”.

“Initially we found 138 drums carrying packets of Pesticides without any label and tags etc, we have seized whole large quantity and informed officials of enforcement wing of Agriculture department which later confirmed to us that pesticides were of substandard nature. We have completed all legal formalities in this regard from our side,” SHO Bihi-Bagh added.
