Shawl Robbers held in Tangmarg; ‘540 Shawls Worth a Rs Crore Recovered’

Five robbers have been arrested by police in Tangmarg area of Baramulla district and stolen items worth Crores of Indian rupees were recovered from them.

A police official in Baramulla district said that on March 24, police arrested Ali Mohammad Bhat son of Abdul Aziz Bhat of Wason in Tangmarg after received reliable information that the accused is doing business of stolen shawls.

Police team led by SHO Kunzer Abdul Hamid under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Rameez Ahmad Bhat after filing an FIR no 28/16 under section 379,411 RPC started investigations into the case.

The official said that the accused Bhat was arrested and during questioning he spilled the beans that led to arrest of Mehrajudin Rather, Manzoor Wani, Mashooq Ahmad Rather, Muzaffar Ahmad Khan and Rayees Ahmad Khan of Srinagar.

“From the accused persons 540 shawls worth Rs 50, 80000, whose value at international market is approximately Rs 1 crore 50 lakh, were recovered. Moreover, six generators worth Rs five lakh were recovered from them,” the official said, adding these accused robbers had stolen these valuable things during the past several months.

He said that the police are investigating the case to dig out more details.

Meanwhile, robbers have stolen two generators in Khanyar area while the CCTV camera installed in a residential house has recorded the activity and the image of the robbers.

“The robbers entered in the house at 3:20 am on 27 March and stolen two generators,” shows a CCTV camera footage.

According to a resident, the footage has also been given to the police station concerned. “The police have started manhunt to trace the robbers,” he said. (KNS)
