2011 Cabinet order on NFSA

Inhabitants of Bemina Monday staged protests against the recently implanted National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the state and were demanding rollback of law.

Similar reports reached from North Kashmir’s Sopore town where people blocked Sopore-Kupwara road.

The inhabitants took to streets and blocked the main road of the road thereby disrupted the vehicular movement as the angry protesters were not allowing any vehicle to ply through the road.

Hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on the Qamarwari-Batamaloo, Tengpora Bypass-Qamarwai and Bemina crossing-Qamarwari roads. “The protesters were not allowing vehicles to ply thorough the road, which led to the massive traffic in the area. We preferred to walk miles to reach to our destination,” said a passenger who was travelling from Baramulla-Srinagar.

He said that the authorities failed to streamline the vehicular movement in the area thereby leaves them to face tough time.

The protesters who were chanting slogans like ‘we want justice were demanding rollback of the recently implemented NFSA in the state.

They said that they will observe complete shutdown and will block the main road again if authorities will fail to rollback NFSA from the state. “Authorities should look into the sufferings of people. We are rice eaters and how is it possible for us to survive on just 7kgs of rice. Ration quota should be increased to 15kgs per head for a month,” the protesters said. (KNS)
