Army checks ID cards of Shopian residents who go to Masjids for morning, evening prayers: Rasheed

Srinagar

Incumbent Langate lawmaker, Er Rasheed on Monday said that the people of Shopian are humiliated by the army and alleged that armed forces check the identity cards of the people who go mosques to offer morning and night prayers in order to prove their identity.

Rasheed, in a statement said, that this act is shameful and speaks of the sick and arrogant mind-set of security agencies especially army. He said that the reason for the same is that army is being appreciated from everywhere outside Kashmir for humiliating and terrorizing Kashmiris. “All these colonial measures would never help New Delhi in establishing its writ on the ground as Kashmiris have decided to pay the cost whatsoever for Right to Self-Determination.”

Rasheed said that in the name of giving protection to army convoys, the army is humiliating people of the Valley from Qazigund to Karnah and is also wasting time of the people in the name of giving safe passage to convoys.

He accused army of “terrorizing and brutalizing common masses in entire Shopian district”.

“There can be nothing disgraceful than the fact that army has been given free hand to thrash and drag residents mostly youth from their houses in every area of Shopian district. During nights army pelts stones on the houses and thus provoking the locals. Those entering mosques to offer evening and morning prayers are often humiliated and ordered to prove their identity.”

Authorities foil Geelani’s presser: Spokesman says “details of properties prepared by NIA is fraud”

Srinagar

Authorities Sunday foiled press conference of Syed Ali Geelani at his Hyderpora residence, said Hurriyat (G) spokesman.

Spokesman said the press conference was against the false and baseless allegation of Indian Investigative agency (NIA) and Indian biased media against Syed Ali Geelani, his family and his party men.

Syed Ali Geelani

“The press conference was called to aware the nation and the world about the reality of these allegations and to expose the wicked agenda of RSS mind set behind this propaganda, but the police and the state administration prevented the press conference and didn’t allowed the media to enter the residence of Geelani Sahab,” spokesman said and added that “the police and the state-administration in a bid to appease their masters in New-Delhi sealed off the entire residence-cum-office of Syed Ali Geelani and didn’t allow anybody to enter or to leave the office premises.”

While strongly condemning the police action, spokesman said that the police and the state administration too are interested to keep the people in dark and prevent the truth to reach the public and to provide a one-sided chance to the Indian biased media for character assassination of the pro-freedom leadership of Kashmir. “Hurriyat Conference question that the pro-freedom leadership should also get a chance to counter the baseless and venomous allegations of the Indian media against them, but the state police and administration while giving first preference to their employment and salaries, didn’t let the media to enter the residence of Geelani sahab,” spokesman said.

He said that Indian “authorities resorted to character assassination of pro-freedom leadership” and added that the “services of agencies like NIA are being employed to defame and to delegitimize the real representative character of resistance camp.”

Huriyat spokesman said that the reports & details of properties prepared by NIA, are quite fraud and added that biased media is propagating & promoting cooked and fabricated stories & contrary to this reality is quite different.

Commenting over the role played by resistance leaders, Hurriyat spokesman said that since past 70 years the Indian authorities and its biased media always carried its defamatory campaign against pro-freedom leadership.

“Subjugated people have always reposed their faith in leadership and this annoyed, irritated and frustrated authorities and hence Syed Ali Geelani has always been their prime target or their agencies,” said spokesman.

“They are carrying damaging propaganda against Syed Ali Geelani and the reason is quite evident that he always represented the aspiration of people,” he said and added that Geelani always resisted and resents the Indian hegemony and hence authorities out of frustration are resorting to these under hand means and even tried to assassinate him.

“After they failed to cow down his spirits, authorities feel desperate to malign freedom movement and thus services of NIA are being utilized to evolve a negative impression about Syed Ali Geelani.”

Spokesman clarified that “Geelani never followed his political carrier as a means for trade, material gains or for his livelihood, instead pursued his mission likewise that of obligatory prayers.”

He declared that resistance leadership never feel shy or is afraid of any accountability in public.

Denying any unauthorized, illegal or disproportionate property being in his custody, he said that his daughters are married while as his two sons including Dr. Naeem Gilani, and Naseem Gilani, have no illegal assets.

“Indian authorities under well thought out plan have framed conspiracies; however, we are neither afraid nor we will give up our mission, said spokesman.

“These conspiracies, negative propaganda and fabricated reports about properties won’t help new Delhi nor will they dampen our spirits.”

Denying the reports of NIA about properties allegedly amassed by Syed Ali Geelani and pro-freedom leadership, Huriyat (G) spokesmna said that “we are considering the details and will come with the actual figures to aware people and world community about the misinformation campaign and malicious propaganda of Indian authorities.”

Hurriyat, he said has decided to take legal action against the NIA and Indian Media about the character assassination of its leaders and family members for which the Hurriyat Conference has started consultations with the legal experts regarding the issue.

Don’t forget Militancy is not creation of Huriyat: Er Rashid asks CM Mehbooba

Srinagar

Calling PDP a party of hypocrites, MLA Langate Er. Rasheed has expressed surprise over party’s seeking help from Huriyat leadership to end up militancy. While interacting with a group of youth from Srinagar, Er. Rasheed said that on one side PDP leadership begs Huriyat for peace and seeks its intervention to end militancy but on the other hand, the party has bundled Huriyat leaders to New Delhi for getting them humiliated at the hands of investigating Agencies, Indian media and politicians.

Er Rasheed. KL File Image

“How can Huriyat help in ending militancy if New Delhi has made Huriyat defunct and is ignoring the basic fact that Huriyat is creation of militancy and militancy is not their creation. Whatsoever Mehbooba Mufti has said in Srinagar during Public Meet on Kashmir dispute is nothing but to strengthen New Delhi’s weak view point on Kashmir, make pro-resistance leadership irrelevant and mislead the world community,” Er. Rasheed said.

“She needs to learn that it is only UN resolutions and nothing else that make J&K an internationally recognized dispute. Let Mehbooba Mufti realize that main stream has failed to deliver since 1996, when first time elections were held and main stream promised stars and moons from the sky. Due to its own utterances and politics of deception main stream has lost the right to speak over Kashmir issue and anything spoken by the major main stream parties will be seen as an desperate attempt to restore the credibility of the bulldozed main stream,” he added and asked Mehbooba Mufti to explain that “if Party seeks help from resistance leaders and at the same time puts them behind bars, why should Mirwaiz be not allowed to put forward his view point over the allegations leveled against him by various agencies.”

“It is shameful that while Govt. accuses Mirwaiz of making money out of the movement, Govt. is stopping him from speaking the truth. People would have been the best to judge what Mirwaiz is speaking. By not allowing him the press conference Govt. has exposed itself and it is proven beyond doubt that due to fear of exposing the Govt. and its agencies, Mirwaiz was not allowed to speak and New Delhi wants him to say only that part of the story what may suit to it”.

The authorities should allow the prayers and make sure religious centres or affairs do not be affected for political reasons,” he said.

A party spokesperson also condemned the continuous arrest of Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir and said that by keeping him under custody the authorities are stopping him from performing religious duties as Mirwaiz. “The government should immediately release Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir and also allow Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to perform their religious duties. By keeping both these religious leaders in custody or house arrest, the authorities are not doing any good to Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.

During rains, the dilapidated roads turn into cesspools.” When water remains stagnant for a long time, It further damages road,” said Adil Ahmad, a local.

“Due to potholes vehicles have suffered damages. The dilapidated condition of the road poses risk of accidents. The road is vital as most of the vehicles including school buses pass through it,” said Mohammad Jamal.

Accusing the authorities for ignoring their plights, the residents demanded immediate redressal of their grievances.

The residents told that the authorities have failed to maintain and macadamize the road which has resulted in the immense hardships to the commuters.

They said that they approached several higher ups in this regard but unfortunately nothing has been done so far.”Despite assurances by the authorities, the department has failed to take measures to macadamize the road,” they added.

#SundayAppeal: Have a glance at our worn out roads

By Rayees Rehman

Living in countryside is actually a privilege for there is not much noise pollution and air pollution as compared to urban areas but at the same time I would like to state quite candidly that life here is at times frustrating.

Rayees Rehman

In this modern era, roads are vital and have their own significance.

Commute and Transportation are two daily based activities which have direct impact on peoples’ lives and in fact livelihood. Bad roads means bad and malfunctioning of these two very important activities.
Extremely dilapidated and bumpy roads are taking a heavy toll on our lives besides the dust contributing towards very dangerous air pollution which hitherto was not a great concern for us but now poses a huge threat to our virgin atmosphere and its tranquility.

Roads play a very colossal role in forging a surge and uplift in trade and consequently economy.
People who have borrowed hefty sums from banks and bought vehicles in order to make a living are also at the receiving end. They work so hard day in and day out to feed their families and repay their loans but after a few years they see their vehicles in extremely bad condition which stalls their progress and they come to a standstill.

This problem also owes it origin to the menace of bad condition of roads.
Let me underpin my argument, Vehicles plying on roads in Srinagar or Sopore are much more efficient and outlive those plying in our hapless villages.
We want to make a fervent appeal to the authorities concerned to cast a glance at our tattered and worn out roads and help us in this grim situation by macadamizing and widening our roads so could also believe in your equitable development.

#SundayAppeal: District hospital Islamabad is ailing

By Ab. Rashid Bhat

District Hospital administration Islamabad is unable to function smoothly owing to huge rush of patients coming from District Ramban, Kishtiwar, Kulgam, Shopian,Pulwama & Islamabad

The OPD and other facilities available are not patient friendly. The scarcity of specialists in the hospital is a routine matter.

Representational Image

You can’t expect diagnosis of critical patients. The prescribed medicines by simple MBBS doctors is compromised with sub standard drugs. High end treatment for simple ailments. Unecessary examinations is a routine matter. Non availability of proper seating arrangements for patients adds miseries to ill patients. Non availability of mortuary ambulance service in hospital is really a big human rights violation.

The administration categorically deny ambulance service to dead bodies. The blood bank is not up to the mark. Transfer of specialists from Skims Srinagar is the need of an hour.

Both lower and upper rank officials should be transferred.

I have personal experience of Gandhi nagar hospital jammu where in you have a piece of mind. Free medicines from dispensary as doctor prescribes and informs patients to check first in dispensary before going to outside market. This is all about medical fraternity is for serving mankind.

The other concern is Uniform less doctors. They are hazardous for treatment as you are supposed to be treated by a Doctor with MBBS, MD or consultant but without proper display of degree in uniform you are often treated by BUMS or Ayush doctors or sometimes by a medical assistant. Uniform & degree display must be mandatory for practices.

#SundayAppeal: Natipora roads and drains are threat to life

By Bakshy Yasir

I would like to bring to the notice of concerned authorities the miserable condition of roads and drainage in my locality, Ration lane Natipora, Srinagar.

The roads are dilapidated, as a result, people face it difficult to walk on the road. Moreover, vehicles cannot move smoothly.

There are pits & ditches on the road, everywhere. The condition of the road becomes all the worst during the rainy season.

Condition of road in Natipora (KL Image: Bakshy Yasir)

It is more worrisome during night. People sometimes stumble down. The residents are in deep distress on this account and they have repeatedly expressed their resentment but nothing has so far been done except some rough work done two years ago.

There is a drainage constructed some five years ago but to our dismay the same is defunct due to the ill-engineering. Often the drain water flows on the road which cause great hindrances to pedestrian as well as vehicukar movement.

The pits have become the breeding place for mosquitoes and there is every apprehension that it may lead to spread of malaria and other dreaded diseases especially among the children.

Now it is requested through your means to the concerned to kindly look into the matter and get the roads and drainage repair & constructed without any further delay.

#SundayAppeal: Solve our problems, residents of Kaloosa, Nathpora, Watapora, Qazipora, Putusha & Panjigaam

By Arifa Habib

I am very thankful to Kashmir life that they today gave me a chance to inform about the problems of concerned area. This is a golden step taken by KL.

Representational Picture

Now the main problem in Bandipora is that water pipe connection given by PHE is without filter plant and we all the residents are suffering from so many diseases especially children due to this contaminated water.

Second issue is macdamization of road from Bandipora to Srinagar .As this road is vital and among highways then why it is always neglected by the government.

As a citizen, it is my duty to look into the problems present in my locality whenever I visit the Government or private hospitals, there are present so many children suffering from water borne diseases. Mothers are always found on rioads to protest plight of their children and try to awake government from slumber.

I am requesting government through this valuable newspaper, please our problem should be solved as soon as possible.

Residents of Kaloosa , Nathpora , Watapora ,Qazipora ,Putusha & Panjigaam.

#SundayAppeal: Even after four years, Govt High school Achoora is awaiting completion

By Muzamil Khan

Basic education is a right and not a privilege. It is the government’s responsibility to provide its people the kind of education they deserve. The government  should promote the right of all citizens to quality education. And also it should take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all.

Image of School building under construction( KL Image: Muzamil Khan)

But in Gurez, tucked away among rolling hills & mountains, this is not without challenges. One crisis in the educational system is the lack of classrooms. It threatens the learning at schools in Gurez. The students learn at the playground & have to rush somewhere when it rains. Also, they’re unable to concentrate and this affects their performance. Especially in Autumn and winter, it’s too cold there and unrealistic to teach outside. The schools also lack facilities like latrines, libraries & laboratories.

There’s no substitute for schooling in a classroom setting. Classrooms are needed to make learning possible. The children of Gurez are too entitled to quality classrooms, teachers & textbooks.
Government High school Achoora is awaiting completion of construction of its building for last four years. The school was upgraded fourteen years ago, but the students of  the school are  still studying  in Middle school  building  which  has    only  four rooms.

Under construction building of school from last four years (KL Image: Muzamil Khan)

The construction of school buildings has been a long process and is taking over years to be built. Classroom shortage has outlived the successive governments. The locals have presented their concerns to the government but nothing has been forthcoming.

Appeals for help has yielded nothing. It’s high time, the deficiency in classrooms should be resolved. The government should come to the aid before the situation gets worse.
