Mirwaiz welcomes Indo-Pak DGMOs’ decision

Srinagar

Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman on Thursday welcomed the decision of the DGMOs of India and Pakistan for deciding to honour the 2003 ceasefire and follow it in letter and spirit.

“Such a decision will at least provide a huge sigh of relief to the people on both sides of LoC who otherwise become the first causality of the border hostilities firing between the Indian and Pakistani army,” Mirwaiz said.

He, however, said that the same cannot be said for the people of Kashmir, where the situation continues to be worrisome and grim. “People are the mercy of forces who continue to intimidate and harass them. Vandalizing properties and houses of militants and desecrating their graves by forces is becoming a new way of harassment in south Kashmir villages, which is disconcerting,” he said.

Mirwaiz said forces are now resorting to torching fruit orchards and their owners and the protesting youth are thrashed for raising the objection. He strongly condemned the shameful act of desecrating the graves of slain militants terming it as savage.

“With each passing day, the anger among the people across Kashmir towards the government forces and the ruling dispensation is increasing.  On one hand, the government claims that there are positive results to their cessation of hostilities against the people, but on the other hostilities continue in different forms to repress people,” he said.

Mirwaiz who is also the patron of Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was addressing the Majlis e Waz-o-Tableeg in connection with the Ashra-e-Maghfirat at Masjid-e-Shareef Lahripora, Nowshera and Masjid-e-Shareef Narwara.

Are We Heading Towards Moral Disaster?

by Raees ul Hamid Paul

Alhamdulillah! We are adherents of a beautiful religion. No other religion lays stress on moral values and upholding the chastity of men and women in such a lofty strain as does Islam. In one pertinent verse of the Quran, Allah SWT tells His Messenger, “Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and protect their private parts. This is purer for them. Indeed Allah is well aware of what they do”(Surah Nur: 30). So, it’s the menfolk first who are commanded not to leer at women and to protect their modesty.

The brutal rape and murder of Asiya and Neelofar continue to haunt us till today and the recent horrendous rape and killing of little Bakerwal girl in Kathua sent shock waves across the world and all of us condemned this abominable crime and demanded crucifixion of the rapists.

For quite a long time, I was living in denial mode, believing that harassment and molestation of our women do not exist in Kashmir I had this mistaken belief because we are a “conservative society”, an abode of saints (Pir vaier). The values and ethics we have inherited from our aslaaf, I believed, we are free from perverts and sociopaths who try to outrage the modesty of our sisters, daughters and mothers.

But that is no the reality. The women at their workplaces and during travel are the worst sufferers of sexual intimidation and the molesters often turn out to be “married” men and those at higher positions who sexually harass their female subordinates. These perverts and deviants feel emboldened due to their clout, arrogance and our apathy towards such incidents. Quite often the people around know about these incidents but choose to keep mum. The victim doesn’t reveal her ordeal out of fear of facing social stigma and societal shame. She takes it as a blemish on her character and deems that it can’t be wiped off. Time and again these sordid and agonizing memories come back to haunt her and she begins to search faults in herself and in her demeanour. Even if she chooses to disclose, she is met with callous treatment from the society by the victim- blaming her, her morality is questioned, asking her traumatic questions like whether she gave signals inviting abuse, etcetera.

We tend to forget that it’s we men first who were ordained by Allah SWT not to gawk at women, let alone trying to harm them. A woman even if she desires, will never make a sexual advance (both within and outside legitimate boundary); it’s ingrained in her shy nature, she will always step back, it’s the man who takes the lead. The perversion, therefore, lies in menfolk. The buck stops at menfolk who are creating this suffocating environment for our women. These perverts and morally deviant people are the scum of the society who must be isolated and name shamed. They are ripping apart our glorious cultural standing.

I get emotionally touched by this hadith of Prophet Muhammad SAW where He says to Adiy Ibn Hatem (RA), “By He in whose hands is my soul, verily Allah will bring this matter [Islam] into completion till women travel from Hira and circumambulate the Ka’ba without being accompanied by anyone.” In a slightly different narration, it’s mentioned that she won’t be afraid of anybody except Allah SWT.

Let’s at least work on this one aspect of that society which Muhammad PBUH had aspired and Himself built, in which our womenfolk feel safe, secure and breathe freely. Let’s not breach the trust and the faith our women repose in us. As believers of Islam, how can we go astray when we are led by the beautiful teachings of Prophet Muhammad? I wonder if moral values enshrined in our Shariah can’t deter us from committing these shameful things, then what else could. We may put in place anti-sexual harassment committees, but I believe if we imbibe moral values in ourselves, only then we can pre-empt such offences.

Touching upon the other issue is the latest bone-chilling incident in which reportedly a daughter of the soil, whose age has been contested so far, was accompanying Major Leetul Gogoi apparently to have an overnight stay with him. In the first place, we must laud the exemplary role of the Mamta Hotel management for keeping their business interests aside and rescuing the girl from getting sexually exploited.

Leave aside what action Army is going to take against its soldier, let’s do a bit soul-searching of ourselves as a society. The pimp (here too the accomplice in the crime is the son of the soil) apparently seems to have struck the deal between her and the Major and facilitated their meetings. As per the reports, the family of the girl is presently living in a makeshift shed made of galvanized corrugated steel sheets. It is being widely said that extreme poverty of her family had probably driven her to develop an illicit relationship with our adversary. But can the penurious condition of the family serve an excuse for somebody to go astray and sell her chastity? I would rather blame parents and society at large for such fragile moral character and complacent attitude of parents of not keeping an eye on the whereabouts of their children, not reining them and our inability to inculcate sound moral values in them.

Raees ul Hamid Paul

Yesterday’s incident of rape of a minor girl in Budgam and surfacing of the murder of a property dealer from Nowgam by his wife in connivance with her paramour should send shivers down our spine. Isn’t that we should take these incidents as a matter of collective shame and an embarrassment to us that we get to see these shameful incidents even in this blessed month of Ramzan?

If we were up in arms against the brutal rape and murder of innocent little Bakerwal girl, why are we silent on these morally wayward people of our own community who are committing these shameful acts in our backyard, in our neighborhood, in our institutions, in our offices, in our schools and in our homes? We must ask this question to ourselves; are we heading towards a moral disaster? Why is there criminal silence and complacency towards this moral decadence? I believe these incidents were unheard of in our society. There is something wrong with our society. Why aren’t we getting jolted on these ghastly incidents?

Instead of spending time in propagating sectarian supremacy and doing manazirahs on whether eight or twenty rakats are authentic, why don’t our religious preachers and scholars vociferously stress on the manners, ethics and moral values?

The Minister said that in a democracy everyone has a right to protest to register their concern. However, when Government is already aware and is working to find a solution to the problem, there is no reason to hit the streets. He said it affects the education of children which is moral, professional and ethically wrong.

He informed the committee formulated in this regard is working tirelessly and would soon come out with a solution.

‘Jama’at condemns burning of residential houses in Kakapora’

Srinagar

Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday strongly condemned the attempt by government forces to burn residential houses in Gundibagh Kakapora during the night hours when the dwellers were fast asleep.

The spokesman said that it was a planned attempt to burn these houses along with the respective families. Some days back these very forces vandalized some residential houses at Sugan, Shopian and cut a number of apple trees. These forces have let loose a reign of terror throughout the valley turning the life of the common people into a hell. Hundreds of innocent people mostly youth are also languishing in different jails and police stations and most of them have secured the release orders from the courts which are not at all honoured by the police authorities who claim to be the custodians of law and the protectors of the human rights.

The spokesman added that a number of people have been kept in police lockups and are being involved in false cases in order to delay their release. Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi along with her two aides has not been released from the women’s police station Rambagh despite release orders from the court.

Ameer Tehsil Islamabad Gulzar Ahmad Bhat of Uranhal, Bijbehara is being shifted from one police station to another. His son too is detained with him at police post Sangam. Jama’at also expresses its deep anguish over the desecration of graves by government forces which is quite against the human ethics and civilized legal norms. The law is not being followed as it is but the directions of police officers have become the law of the land which is a grave and brutal violation of the human rights.

Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir while vehemently condemning these human rights violations appeals the international and local human rights bodies and forums to take serious cognizance of this sordid situation and take effective steps and proper action against these unruly authorities who are involved in it. Jama’at also demands the unconditional release of all detainees and arrestees during the current month of Ramadhan.

JK Bank announces Rs 202.72 Cr profit for 2017-18

Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Bank while showing resilience during turbulent times in banking industry has registered a profit of Rs.202.72 crore for the financial year 2017-18. The Board of the bank adopted the audited financial results for the Q4 & FY 17-18 here on Wednesday.

The audited results reveal that the bank registered reported a total business of 140304.78 Cr comprising deposits of 80006.50 Cr and advances of 60298.28cr as on March 31, 2018, depicting a growth of 11.3% over the previous fiscal. Within the state, the bank reported a robust credit growth of 20% in line with the state focused lending strategy of the current leadership of the bank.

J&K Bank Chairman Parvez Ahmad

Commenting on the numbers for the 4th quarter Chairman and CEO Parvez Ahmed said “The banking industry has seen a very difficult and challenging 4th quarter with RBI coming out with revised guidelines on NPA identification and treatment besides quashing the restructuring schemes leading to some major slippages across the industry. Then there was the Nirav Modi effect which leads to one of our accounts M/S Gitanjali Gems getting downgraded. In the Jammu and Kashmir state rehabilitated portfolio RBI notified some divergence in classification. All this resulted in enhanced provisioning and interest reversals which precipitated in muted bottom-line for the quarter.”

“On the brighter side,” he added “we were able to complete the cleanup and consolidation act. In the current fiscal though there will still be pressure on the balance sheet but we do not anticipate any major downgrade in the pipeline. We have concomitantly completed the succession planning exercise along with revamping of the organization structure with the aim of improving the systems and procedures to strengthen the culture of compliance. The focus has been on the risk management and capital planning too for regulatory compliance and growth over a longer period of time”.

“Our promoters the state government and the regulator Reserve Bank of India supported us well during the tough preceding year with their guidance and support particularly in the management of rehabilitated portfolio of J&K state, the former supporting the business community with Chief Minister business interest relief scheme and the latter by allowing us the staggering provisioning for interest capitalized in rehabilitated accounts.”, acknowledged the Chairman.

Commending the concerted efforts of the staff of the bank in the challenging environment in the banking industry he added,’ the biggest anchor has been the human capital of the bank who have worked tirelessly for the last one and a half  years to execute the multi-pronged strategy devised to tide over the difficult times in the bank. We could manage to keep ourselves in the green zone riding on NPA recovery of Rs 2200 cr which included timely asset sale of some distressed assets, credit growth of 12.5% and better liability management by deprioritizing high-cost bulk deposits. All this will not have been possible but for the synergistic efforts of the dedicated team at all levels.”

“During the current fiscal, our focus will still be on conservation & augmentation of capital, NPA recovery, containing the slippages especially in the restructured portfolio and strengthening of the compliance framework in the Bank. On the business front we are targeting a balance sheet growth of 20% which shall be mainly driven by credit growth of 30% in J&K state where we see huge opportunity lying untapped in the retail credit,” added Parvez Ahmed.

Notably, the Bank has reported a digital transaction percentage of 48%, CASA ratio of 50.89%, NIIM of 3.65%, NPA coverage ratio of 65.83% net NPA of 4.90% and profit FY 17-18 at 202.72 Cr. The bank is continuously introducing new customized products in the J&K state besides driving the push to source of new retail loans to digital channels by targeting strategic tie-up with Government departments and institutional customers to drive its retail credit growth in the Jammu and Kashmir state.

KCCI delegation calls on Chief Minister

Srinagar

A delegation of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Inc) on Wednesday led by the President Javid Ahmad Tenga called on the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to bring the following issues and problems require the urgent intervention of the State Government.

The spokesman said that Industrial Package on the pattern of North East, Land Transfer of Zainakote Industrial Estate, Delay in Finalisation of Master Plan, Implementation of Announcements made in the State Budget, Skyrocketing Prices of Petroleum Products, Reports of Construction of Road at Baltal-Amarnath Route, Proceedings to be initiated in Major Gogoi Case, Serious pursuance of meaningful talks with Stakeholders for settlement of the Kashmir Issue, Return of Power Projects from NHPC, Industrial Package on the pattern of North East and Industrial Package on the pattern of North East:-

As already taken up with the Economic Advisor to Ministry of MSME DPS Negi we urge the State Government to strongly push for a scheme on the pattern of the recently approved North-East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS) 2017.

The President, KCC&I Javid Ahmad Tenga stated that the Kashmir Chamber had already taken up the issue with both the State and Central Governments and were hopeful that the State Government would urgently follow-up on this much-needed incentive package for the development of industry in the State.

LAND TRANSFER OF ZAINAKOTE INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry has since three decades been demanding – from successive governments – retrieval of the HMT land for catering to the needs of local industry in the form of Gem and Jewellery Cluster including Gem and Jewellery Institute as also Integrated Textile Park and catering to local requirements.

The State Government have by a Cabinet Decision transferred land from the Zainakote Industrial Estate to Jammu & Kashmir Industries Limited (JKIL) and the J&K SICOP. We are given to understand that the JKIL– in its undetermined wisdom – have now determined “prospective entrepreneurs” to be the CRPF, SSB and J&K Police and “manufacturing units” to be housing colonies and security camps/barracks. The State Government has not only regularized CRPF but gone one step further by presiding over the “butchering” of any entrepreneurial hopes the local business community and unemployed youth might have harboured. The local entrepreneurs shall now have to set up vibrant business enterprises at places not suitable for housing colonies and security camps. The State Government has stabbed the local industry in the back.

Interests in the Industries and Commerce Department are openly advocating the cause of the giving away prime commercial land at the cost of the local business community. Most of the earmarked estates are being taken over by the government forces. The Industries and Commerce Department seems to be pursuing the integration of security camps in and around all industrial areas as a policy matter. The same modus operandi was used at Ompura Industrial Estate and in other areas too. Government forces are being encouraged to grab the land in and around Industrial Estates and then the State Government regularize the same. Ours is the only State where the available land of Industrial Estates is being openly transgressed upon and these acts have negatively impacted the growth of our economy.

Having said that, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry pledges to bring the whole business community and associations together on the streets to fight for the rights of the tyrannized and resist all policies aimed at crippling the local industry with all the strength at our command.

DELAY IN FINALISATION OF MASTER PLAN

We draw your attention towards the unprecedented delay in finalization of the Srinagar Master Plan. This delay has resulted in complete choking of all legitimate developmental, commercial and infrastructural activities in Srinagar. The development of other important towns and tourist spots also suffered due to similar delays. The inhabitants of the capital city are suffering due to lack of adequate infrastructural growth leading to permanent bottlenecks, jams and congestion of roads.

We express the concern of the business community and urge the State Government to revisit the procedure of drafting of Master Plans which needed to be a time-bound and open exercise.

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry has already submitted detailed objections and suggestions incorporating the needs and requirements of a vibrant economy for the consideration of the State Government. The delay in finalization has adversely impacted the economic growth of our State and we hope that the Srinagar Master Plan would be finalized without any further delay and would positively address the needs and requirements of the business community.

IMPLEMENTATION OF ANNOUNCEMENTS MADE IN THE STATE BUDGET

We also draw the attention of the State Government towards the need for following up on important announcements made in the State Budget. In this regard, special mention is made of the announcement regarding applicable power tariff to Hotels which was to be put in effect from April 1, 2018. The waiver of interest/penalty on power tariff was also announced.  No requisite orders have so far been issued in this regard, which has caused confusion and anxiety amongst the stakeholders.

Similarly, the scheme announced by the Industries and Commerce Department regarding Hotels also suffers from lack of effective implementation which has acted as an impediment in the smooth flow of incentives to the local industries. The Kashmir Chamber urged the State Government to ensure effective follow-up for these critical interventions.

SKYROCKETING PRICES OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS

We express the shock of the business community at the failure of the Government to control the skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel. In sixteen days there have been sixteen hikes. No heed seems to have been taken of the earlier request of the Kashmir Chamber to review the around 150 per cent State and Central taxes/levies and duties on petroleum products. With the Central as well as the State Government taking no steps to reduce the taxes and duties on petroleum products it appears that the Government and Oil Corporations seem bent upon earning profits to the tune of lacs of crores from the public. Oil Corporations are showing an unprecedented jump in net profits. It is astounding that the Government instead of putting an end to this bizarre plunder appears to be its beneficiary.

For years the Government has benefitted from the fall in crude oil prices and as per reports the entire reduction in the fiscal deficit of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between 2014 and 2016 could be attributed to the fall in crude oil prices. For years the reduction in crude oil prices was hardly passed on to the consumers. Faulty implementation of demonitisation and  Goods and Services Tax (GST) has blown a big hole in the pockets of the public and put all domestic economic activity under extreme stress. Businesses have been pushed up against the wall. The Non-Performing Assets (NPA) accounts and bad loans of banks are at an all-time high. The Government can no longer justify exorbitant taxes and needs to immediately bring down the taxes to moderate levels. It is to be appreciated that the petroleum products cater to essential needs of the public and cannot be treated as a profit-earning enterprise which would be equivalent to holding the public to ransom. The petrol bomb needs to be defused.

REPORTS OF CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD AT BALTAL-AMARNATH ROUTE

We want to bring to your kind notice the press reports about the construction of Amarnath Baltal Road which is against not only the environment but also potential issue which can develop into a big problem for the state. In this  respect  lot of delegations and people  have come  to our chamber demanding action  and  in this regard we have already  had a meeting with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir  who has assured us  to appraise  the actual situation  on ground  on which  we have  requested him  to facilitate  our visit  to that  place  so that we are in a position to  appraise the  public  about the  actual facts to stop any protest etc  at the start  only  so that it does not  develop into  a big issue and people  come  on street.

Keeping in view the sensitive nature of the issue and with respect to the religious sentiments and environmental concerns involved, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry is of the considered opinion that maintenance of status quo is the preferred way forward. We welcome the yatris and believe that the yatra should be conducted in all its traditional glory. Any departure would only invite avoidable flaring of passions which serves no purpose except to create a disturbed situation in the Valley and outside as well. We urge the State Government to take up with the Amarnath Shrine Board to ensure that the Yatra is carried out smoothly and without any controversy as has been done since decades. The Yatra should be an occasion to celebrate our communal harmony which needs to be preserved at all costs. The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry appeals to the State Government to effectively intervene in the issue and address the concerns of all quarters.

PROCEEDINGS TO BE INITIATED IN MAJOR GOGOI CASE

This another issue for which there is potential  of law and order problem if the necessary action  is not  taken   to the accused  with the sense of accountability which is the basic reason  of problems getting  out of hand. As your government has played a proactive role in Kathua Case we expect the  government  to do similarly in this case. Reports suggest that the public is being harassed by raids and subsequently exploited. All actors in the case need to be brought to book, howsoever high and mighty.

MEANINGFUL TALKS WITH STAKEHOLDERS FOR SETTLEMENT OF THE KASHMIR ISSUE

While appreciating the state government for its initiative for talks which has  resulted in the  main  stakeholders like JRL to acknowledge the possibility of  talks. The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry supports this initiative  and hopes that  the State Government will use  its influence  with  Central government  to clear all ambiguities which the JRL  has pointed out  which will be instrumental in peaceful final settlement of Kashmir.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister patiently discussed in detail with the members of the delegation various aspects of above raised issues and assured a positive intervention from the State Government.

‘If a temple, then why not a mosque within secretariat premises’: Er Rasheed

Srinagar

Reiterating his demand to construct a Mosque in civil secretariat premises at Jammu and Srinagar, Independent lawmaker and MLA Langate Er Rasheed has said that government is unnecessarily delaying construction of the mosque in the civil secretariat.

He said “While a temple already exists in secretariat premises at Jammu and nobody has any objection to it, one fails to understand why is majority community being deprived of a mosque in Civil Secretariat at Jammu and Srinagar.

“It is a government which pushes for the communal agenda by denying mosque within secretariat premises. The government must not forget that not only the employees but the general public face always hardships every day in civil secretariat while offering prayers,” Er Rasheed said.

Er Rasheed appealed government not to unnecessarily delay or avoid construction of mosque in civil secretariat at Srinagar and Jammu and said that it is a big issue for majority community of the state and, in light of the fact that Muslims need to pray two times during working hours, depriving them of a place for prayers violates not only the fundamental religious rights but it is against the very ethos of Humanity as well for which majority community has every reason to cry.

He added “It is disgusting that Jammu and Kashmir despite being a Muslim dominated state has not a mosque in the secretariat premises.

“One has a reason to ask if the Muslims are being deprived of their fundamental right to practice their religion while performing their duty in the civil secretariat, what is the legal sanctity of having a temple in the secretariat premises at Jammu,” said Er Rasheed.

“Government must end the discrimination without further delay so that rights and sentiments of the majority community are protected,” Er Rasheed said.

‘It wasn’t a ceasefire, but suspension of operation in view of Ramzan’: Rajnath Singh

Srinagar

Amid continuing criticism over the announcement of a unilateral ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir during the Muslim holy month of Ramzan, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday once again asserted and clarified that the government hasn’t tied the hands of the security forces, reports claimed.

On May 16, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced that security forces would not engage in any anti-militant operations in Jammu and Kashmir during Ramzan. The Ministry had, however, clarified that the security forces reserve the right to take retaliatory action if they are attacked or if it is necessary to protect the lives of innocent civilians.

According to a report published by Times Now, Singh on Monday refused to call it a ceasefire choosing to describe it as suspension of operations. The technical term for this is NICO – Non-Initiation of Combat Operations.

“It wasn’t a ceasefire, but suspension of operation in view of Ramzan. But it was clearly said that we will resume operations if any activity takes place. We haven’t tied the hands of our security forces. Our forces killed five militants when an attack took place,” Times Now, quoted Home Minister as saying.

Why Is Delhi Dangerously In Love With The USA?

by Inam Un Nabi Soudagar

India and Pakistan fought four wars since they came into being. The intermediate period between the two nuclear powers was punctuated with hatred, subtle violence and low-intensity warfare supplemented with espionage and covert operations.

Nationalism, unfortunately, is defined in terms of the quanta of enmity a political dispensation can generate through rhetoric and warmongering, while the talks in the past aimed at changing status quo have in reality never met the desired goal.

With the unprecedented and incurable optimism reflected in a joint book released by two ex-intelligence chiefs, Assad Durrani (ISI) and A S Dulat (RAW), the time has come to recognize the futility of falling into the trap of a war that serves the western powers much more than any of the two neighbours. Suaves within the deep state do comprehend the urgency of composite and comprehensive dialogue but the right wing zealots don’t seem to give any heed to peacebuilding structures. The sane psyche has been confined to dungeons with little scope for rationality and meliorism. Prudence has taken a backseat in the postmodern era marked by truth decay.

Immediate neighbours including China have advocated a peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue while the foreign policy gurus have had a close ear to the US making other veto powers concern seem redundant. Off late, the problems including increasing tariffs, visa issues, sanctions on Iran with an impact on Chabbar Port and of course USA’s growing hostility with Russia have uneased India. The much-hyped India US conviviality is turning into a sort of illusion marked by a little benefit and meteoric rhetoric.

In the grab of maintaining good relations with the US, India is heavily paying in terms of losing its once most trusted favourite nations. India’s non-participation in (NAM) non-aligned movement that stands firm on issues of decolonization, disarmament and justice for all is also a marker of the right-wing foreign policy shift. Refugees who once used to be given an asylum by India have again become a national issue with Rohingyas flaring up in all nationalistic narratives and their deportation is now a national priority as well as emergency.

China’s boxer protocol deal of 1900 AD with the West which is considered a national humiliation in Chinese foreign policy history should be learning for all immediate neighbouring nation States. In an environment of rising hostility with the neighbour States, how long should India look at a nation thousands of miles away when the ‘String of Pearls’ is becoming hostile with each passing year.

Today rationalists are awed and worried by the strange India US relations where the latter is reciprocating with nuggets with former at the receiving end. Most nations in European Union itself are puzzled by US President Donald Trump’s unilateral decision of shifting embassy to Jerusalem and are rethinking of the grave consequences of siding with a country ruled by a bellicose leader like Donald Trump who has been carrying genocide in Middle East albeit masquerading as a saviour and revivalist under the flag of false democratic restoration in these gullible nations. India that has otherwise maintained good relations with Palestine recently chose to remain, mum when hundreds were killed and thousands injured in Gaza.

The foreign policy and list of countries that enjoy cordial relations with India does have an impact on the posterity of Kashmir and its long cherishing for peace. Track -II has already been engaged by the Modi government, but where does the solution lie when PM Modi himself recently advocated and prayed for peace as conclusion remarks at SKICC Srinagar. Is it not baffling that the policymakers are advocating Operation All-Out and ceasefire simultaneously which puts the best of brains to chaos and ambivalence.

The lexicon of power authorities has a good amount of schism and no one is circumventing a clean roadmap. We do admire the quest for peace that Prime Minister of India has recently revealed but how come the goal be achieved without the change in status quo.

With SCO meeting in Russia where both countries will share the stage, it is mandatory to shun the traditional innuendos and work for a joint mechanism for restoration of dialogue and justified peace in Kashmir. People living in border areas have had to flee their niche in wake of border skirmishes on either side, in the mainland Valley, the lack of meaningful indulgence has forced thousands to embrace death.

Inam un Nabi Saudagar

Ring road project and Zojila tunnel as part of Rs 25000 crore Central developmental assistance to Jammu and Kashmir State carry no meaning when the State has been orphaned politically for decades. The perfidy of policymakers and politicians has made an average Kashmiri suffer like never before.

China Russia and Iran have been long insinuating for peace in Kashmir, but the Modi government has maintained a deaf ear to its neighbours and has been chaperoning a country like the USA that has been credited historically with manufacturing wars for its personal armed industry to flourish. With the futility of wars in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria, countries globally and especially India should rethink its relationship with the US and listen to the astute calls of peace from its immediate neighbours that might decide the global order very soon.

Mirwaiz condemns killing of sumo driver in Pulwama

Srinagar

Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Mohammad Umar Farooq on Monday strongly condemned the killing of an innocent sumo driver Bilal Ahmed of Pulwama during an exchange of fire between army and militants. Mirwaiz stated that in absence of no accountability, forces are killing Kashmiris at their will and wish.

Mirwaiz said that the Kashmir’s struggle is genuine and it cannot be muzzled through “military might” as such tactics were employed in the past too but failed to yield any result. He said such measures can’t force the freedom loving people of Kashmir into a submission.

Mirwaiz said that the force’s atrocities were once again on a full display at Turkwangan and Wangam Shopian where forces resorted to vandalising of properties and torching of trees in orchards, and thrashing inmates and also damaging the property and household goods of militant commander Zeenatul Islam, terming it as highly condemnable. He said, on one hand, GoI announces a ceasefire and on the other hand, its forces torch apple crop and damage property of local people without any moral reason and justification in the holy month of Ramadhan. He said that forces in Kashmir are laced with unbridled powers under black laws including AFSPA and they don’t care for any action knowing the fact that they would never be held accountable.

Mirwaiz while recalling the 2009 double rape and murder of Asiya and Neolofar of Shopian stated that nine years on, no investigation was held and the case was brushed aside on a self-made and highly manipulated investigation report of CBI. He said instead of ordering an impartial probe into the incident, the case was hushed up under a well-planned conspiracy to shield the real culprits and to deprive the victim families of the justice.

Mirwaiz said those involved in the incidents Shopian, Kunanposhpora, continue to roam around scot-free and instead of ordering an impartial probe, culprits are having a field day. Mirwaiz urged the world forums and rights organisations to take serious note of war crimes being committed by the forces here.

Aasiya, aides booked again, sent to police remand till June 2: DeM

Srinagar

Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) on Tuesday lambasted the government and its police for booking and re-arresting party chairperson, Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and her two associates in another case after the court had issued an interim bail in their favour on Monday.

In a statement, DeM spokesman, Rifat Fatima, said that after the court issued orders of interim bail in favour of Andrabi Sahiba, party general secretary, Nahida Nasreen and press secretary, Sofi Fehmeeda, the police took them to Soura police station where another fake case was registered against them. “From there, the trio were taken to Rambagh Women’s police station and have been kept in police remand until June 2,” she added.

Rifat said that it was barbaric that since April 20, false cases are being registered against the trio one after another. “ The party leaders were arrested on April 20 on false charges of ‘instigating students to protest’ from Islamabad and were sent to Central Jail,” she said.

Rifat said that it took a month to get bail in that case as it was only issued on May 19. “Since May 19, Andrabi Sahiba, Nahida Nasreena, and Sofi Fehmeeda are being illegal kept under detention at the Rambagh Police station. This is political vengeance against the Baaji Sahiba,” she added.

On May 28, an interim bail order was issued and police were asked to immediately release the trio but instead of releasing them, this terrorist force came up with yet another fake case against the DeM leaders and have extended the police remand until June 2, she added.

Rifat said that this is barbaric and mockery of their own law. “ Isn’t it funny that police mocks the judgments that have been issued by its own courts.”

“Denying release to the trio despite a bail order is an example of how police disrespect the orders of Indian courts here,” she added.

Rifat further expressed concern over the deteriorating health of party chairperson inside the police station. “Not releasing her despite her being critically ill and also denying proper medical care to her is taking a heavy toll on her health,” she added.

She demanded their immediate release so that proper medical care is provided to her as soon as possible.
