JKASW Holds Children’s Festival; ‘200 Children Participate’

The Jammu & Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW) – a child rights organization of state – hosted a Children’s Festival here on Wednesday, 30th March, 2016 at Tagore Hall Srinagar.

200 children from different communities of JKASW’s intervention belonging to districts of Srinagar, Baramulla, Bandipora and Pulwama, took active part in the event, a statement issued by the JKASW said late this evening.

The hosts of the Festival, JKASW works for protection of rights of children belonging to marginalized and disadvantaged communities. Its outreach programs are designed to provide meaningful interaction and help for those children who need it most.

This year the theme of the festival was “Our Voices Our Dreams” Festival was designed and hosted to provide an opportunity for children to display their many hidden talents. In the first half all children participated in fun activities and games.

The highlight of event was second half where 60 children after completing a two day workshop presented four plays highlighting children’s views, expressions, opinions, dreams and triumphs. The plays were themed on ICDS, Education, Health and Child Labour.

Along with, government officials prominent among those being Director Education Kashmir Dr Shah Faesal who applauded the efforts of JKASW and its work with school drop-outs and never been to school children.

Furthermore, he said that NGOs like JKASW have a critical role in improving the educational scenario in Kashmir by working in collaboration with the department”. He also said that the education department is making serious efforts to achieve the goal of education for all, especially focussing on decreasing the school drop-out rate.

The participants applauded the effort of JKASW to give children a larger platform to put forward their views and opinions and were of the view that such events shall be held regularly as they are the right forums where children can be themselves, enjoy and at the same time highlight the issues they face on day to day basis. The event ended with signing of pledge wall by participants and invitees to uphold right of children and to ensure everlasting change for children of Jammu & Kashmir. (KNS)
