Srinagar to Host ‘Kashmir Economic Summit-2016’

A Srinagar based NGO is holding a four-day “Kashmir Economic Summit-2016” in the month of May.

Centre for Research and Development Policy (CRDP), a Srinagar based “think-tank” and a policy group in its statement issued Sunday evening said, “different aspects of economy, tourism, hydro-power, rural development and different aspects of world economy viz-a-viz Kashmir economy will be discussed in the proposed summit.”

The summit is expected to be attended by renowned international economists, corporate heads, social and political scientists, business leaders, media tycoons and policy makers.

“Besides technical sessions, the program would also conduct a special program ‘YEED’ (Youth Empowerment Through Entrepreneurship Development) which would foster linkages of local young entrepreneurs  with national and international business houses,” the CRDP statement said, “The renowned economists will also present relevant papers.”

The summit, CRDP Director Dr Peer GN Suhail, said is “aimed to bring Kashmir on global map of economy and development”.

The CRDP was established in 2008 for carrying out “cross- sectorial research leading to policy analysis and policy formation”. “It offers trainings, conducts workshops, lectures and seminars with government officials, high impact civil society actors, students and scholars, NGO community and corporates, in capacity building, disaster management, monitoring and evaluation, fund raising and program formation, conflict management and ethical leadership building,” the statement said.

“The Centre, first of its kind in the region, also aims to create a space for fellowships/internships for students and scholars to help nurture a vibrant academic environment for critical research and knowledge exchange for local and outside scholars, social activists and development practitioners,” the statement added, “In the recent past, the centre has conducted series of conferences, workshops and has recently launched Kashmir’s first critical care ambulance service (Kashmir Life Line) in collaboration with the Department of Health Services Jammu and Kashmir.”
