Police in Kashmir Valley “rescued” a top government official and his driver after their private vehicle collided with a truck resulting in their injuries. Both driver and the government official (name withheld) according to hospital sources were under the influence of alcohol.
Police sources informed CNS that after the collision of their private vehicle (JK18-1062) with a truck on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Awantipora, the driver of the government official didn’t stop even after the duo received multiple injuries. “A police party after watching a deflated and damaged vehicle passing through the highway stopped it and both the injured were taken to Primary Health Centre Awantipora where doctors treated them.”
The duo according to sources didn’t stop at the spot of accident to evade arrest. “The bureaucrat and his driver threw liquor bottles from the vehicle shortly after police stopped their vehicle,” sources added.
Sources said that doctors at the PHC after taking the blood samples of the duo confirmed that they were under the influence of alcohol. “Yes, they were under the influence of alcohol and they even misbehaved with the staff,” a Health Official said on condition of anonymity.
People present at the PHC Awantipora were aghast to see a top rank bureaucrat drunk. They demanded stern action against him and his driver.
Sources said that the Government official and his driver were lodged in police station Awantipora shortly after they were discharged from the hospital.
Ironically, no case was registered against the ‘drunken’ bureaucrat and his driver. However, a police official said that nobody is above law and the accused will be booked under relevant sections of Ranbir Penal Code.
