Forces arrested father of an active Hizbul Mujahideen militant, and allegedly ransacked their property, after raiding their house late Tuesday night in Souch village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Family of Omair Ahmad Ganie @Hanzulla, who is active for a year now, alleged, “forces after barging into our home, beat inmates and after frisking all the rooms they fled away with jewellery, cash and LCD TV, besides other belongings.”

“They have arrested my father, Abdul Majeed, who is 75-year-old and beat all the family members including women,” said Hilal Ahmad, Omair’s brother.

He said that they are being “harassed for wrong reasons”. “What is our fault? We are not militants why are they harassing us?”

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Kulgam Sreedhar Patil told Kashmir Life, “taking away of the jewellery and other material is a baseless charge to defame police.”

However, he accepted that the men in uniform raid the house of Omar. “We carried out raid because Omair with his two associates have looted bank in Kulgam and we were investigating that case.”

“His father has also been arrested in connection of the same case,” he said.
