Saluting the bravery and sacrifices of soldiers, J&K Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh said “we sleep peacefully in our homes” only because “they stand guardian to our borders”.
Dr Singh celebrated Diwali with 192 battalion of Border Security Force at R S Pura, a sector tense because of shelling and war-mongering.
“We, the people are indebted to their sacrifice which is honourable and precious to us”, Deputy Chief Minister said in his speech, according to a handout issued by the government. “The patriotism and devotion with which the jawans of Border Security Force fulfill their duties facing all odds is commendable and the entire nation feels indebted to them.”
Stressing that this year’s Diwali was dedicated to the army and paramilitary forces, Singh said we are able to celebrate festivals joyfully in the country, because of the soldiers who are guarding the border day and night and spending sleepless nights. He distributed sweets among the soldiers.
He also lit up an earthen lamp as part of Ek Diya Shaheedon Ke Naam initiative, for those soldiers who laid their lives for nation and who dedicated their whole life towards protecting our motherland, and making us feel safe and secure as one nation, a spokesman of the J&K government said.
