Intense clashes erupted in Srinagar’s Soura area soon after Friday prayers ended.
Reports said that people assembled outside Jamia Masjid in Soura and tried to take out a pro-freedom rally.
However, an eye witness said, forces fired tear gas canisters.
“Youth resorted to intense stone pelting as the forces blocked way for the rally,” they said.
The protestors raised pro-freedom and anti-slogans.
“The protestors tried to march on Soura-Buchpora road but forces stopped and pushed them away,” the eye witnesses said.
Meanwhile, reports said that youth resorted to stone pelting in Hyderpora.
“Protests erupted after Friday prayers,” a local said, “forces, however, did not allow people to come out on Airport road and the youth resorted to stone pelting from lanes. Forces fired pellets besides tear gas canisters.
The joint resistance leadership had asked people to march towards historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar to “break military siege around it”.
J&K Government has banned mandatory congregational Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid Srinagar since July 09, 2016. Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson was arrested on way to Nowhatta where the Jamia Masjid is located.
