Locals and the guards of the Jawahar Nehru Vidyala (JNV) Ashmuqam literally jumped into the fire Sunday morning and prevented the destruction of the principal’s chamber that had been set afire. The main complex of the huge school was saved.
“It was intervention of the sentries and some locals that the chamber of the principal was saved,” Syed Abid Rashid, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad told Kashmir Life. “A computer and an almirah are the two things that we have lost.”
Fire in the chamber was detected by the staff and immediately reported to the Fire and Emergency Services which quickly responded. They extinguished the fire quickly and saved the entire building.
However, the attacks on the educational institutions continue across Kashmir despite the leaders from all sides asking people to prevent the destruction.
Unknown persons on Saturday evening had set afire the government high school in Mihrama falling in Kulgam district. It was destroyed almost completely. Reports suggested that the fire was initiated by the petrol bomb. But it was not immediately confirmed.
Off late, the concern of the society has mounted after more than 24 schools were destroyed to ashes in last 54 days. Leaders from all sides are asking people to be at lookout and identify the people behind the blazes. Kashmir Inc has called for joint interaction on the subject.
