Intense clashes erupted in North Kashmir’s Sopore town on Friday soon after people took out rally.
Raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, the protestors were led by district president Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Abdul Ghani Bhat alias Gour.
The protest rally was on way towards Chankhan but “suddenly forces fired tear gas smoke shells and pellets indiscriminately to disperse off the protesters”, eye witnesses said.
The forces cordoned off the whole area including Jamia Qadeem, Fish Market, Muslim Peer, Chankhan, Hatishah to arrest Abdul Gani Bhat.
“When forces cordoned off the old town Sopore, people including women came out on streets and threw bricks and stones on forces and in response forces restored to tear gas shelling to disperse off the protesters,” they said.
Court has issued arrest warrant against Gour and his house has been many times raided but he has been able to escape, so far.
Intense clashes were going on in Old Sopore when last reports came in.
Meanwhile, minor stone pelting was reported from Warpora area of Sopore town.
According to reports, forces damaged public property in Hygam and arrested two youth and over half dozen were injured In clashes in the area.
