A meeting of Environment Committee of Legislative Assembly was held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of MLA, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen.
Ms Shamim Firdous, Usman Abdul Majid, Abdul Majid Larmi, Altaf Ahmed Wani, Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Gulzar Ahmad Wani and Anjum Fazili attended the meeting. The members put forth their suggestions to make the Committee vibrant and effective in its working, an official spokesperson said this evening.
On the occasion, detailed discussions were held on various issues related to the conservation of Dal Lake like rise in encroachments around Dal’s vicinity during the last few months, rehabilitation of families living in Dal areas to Rakh-e-Aarth and making Dal free from algae.
The members also deliberated upon the functioning of the concerned agencies like LAWDA and Housing &Urban Development Department and expressed their views in making concerted efforts for the restoration of the Dal Lake.
During the meeting, Commissioner Secretary Housing & Urban Development Department informed the Committee members that within two months CCTV cameras shall be installed around Dal peripheries and violators will be dealt sternly under law to keep a check on encroachments.
V C LAWDA informed that separate police station will be made functional very soon to check the illegal constructions in Dal vicinity.
Speaking on the occasion, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen directed the concerned Departments to finalize the rehabilitation of families from Dal area to the Rakh-e-Aarth within one month. He said that next review meeting will be held after a month to ensure that the decisions taken for the conservation of Dal Lake are followed in letter and spirit.
