#Day112: Jama’at-e-Islami Bandipora Leader Arrested

A district leader of J&K’s largest socio-economic-politico party, Jama’at-e-Islami, was arrested by police in North Kashmir on Friday.

Sources in Jama’at told Kashmir Life that its district Bandipora chief (Amir-i-Zila) was arrested in Sumlar area today.

The detained leader was identified as Hafiz Muhammad Sikandar Malik, son of Abdul Gani, resident of Rampora Bandipora.

“Hafiz Sikandar lead Friday prayers in a Jamia Masjid in Bapora area of the district today,” sources said. He is in his early thirties.

“Police men were waiting in civvies outside the Jamia Masjid when Hafiz Sikandar was arrested,” the sources added.

Hafiz Sikandar has been taken to police station Argam where he is currently lodged.

Meanwhile, reports said that a youth was also picked up in Plan area of Bandipora during clashes. He has been identified as Waseem Ahmad, a resident of Putushai village.

Earlier, intense clashes erupted in main Bandipora after a pro-freedom rally was stopped by men in uniform.
