Father-son duo, two brothers and a police constable were arrested by police during a nocturnal raid from Bemina locality of capital city Srinagar on Thursday night.
Reliable police sources informed news agency CNS that 8 grenades and an AK-47 rifle were recovered from their possession. All the arrested persons who according to police belong to militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba hail from Karnah area of frontier district Kupwara.
“They are being questioned. It will be premature to say anything at this stage,” said a police official on condition of anonymity who identified the arrested persons as police constable Khurshid Ahmed Chouhan, father-son duo Aalam Din Bhat, son of Muhammad Afzal Bhat, Yasir Ahmed Bhat, son of Aalam Din Bhat, two brothers Irshad Ahmed Sheikh and Muhammad Ashraf Sheikh, sons of Ali Akbar Sheikh.
The police official claimed that some drugs were also recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, a Hizb militant and his sympathizer were arrested by forces during a joint operation in Hamdanpora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
SP Kulgam Sridhar Patil said, “during a joint operation, a newly recruited Hizb militant Manzoor Ahmed Khan alias Jafar alias Waseem, son of Gh Nabi Khan, a resident of Dhobi Mohalla, Batamaloo was arrested who was hiding in the house of Muhammad Yaqub Dar.”
“Yaqub was also detained for questioning. We have recovered a Pakistani made pistol, 19 rounds of AK 47 rifle, a pouch and a sleeping bag from the possession of the arrested militant,” he said.
