A team comprising Yashwant Sinha, former Union Minister; Ms Sushobha Barve, Executive Director, Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR), Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Kapil Kak and Bharat Bhushan former Editor and senior journalist, called on Governor N N Vohra, at the Raj Bhawan here on Thursday.
The team, led by Sinha, which is visiting Srinagar to talk to various stakeholders about the on-going disturbances, shared their views with the Governor, an official spokesperson said this evening.
The Governor stressed the importance of a sustained dialogue with all stakeholders for securing very early restoration of peace and normalcy in the State.
Meanwhile, reports said that the Sinha led group returned to New Delhi this afternoon. They had come to Srinagar on Tuesday and they first called on incarcerated Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani and then the delegation drove to the residence of detained Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Later, they met Shabir Shah, Abdul Gani Bhat and others.
Sinha led group was on three-day visit to Kashmir and the former Foreign Minister and BJP veteran Sinha has asserted that they were on personal visit to Kashmir and did not represent government of India.
On Wednesday, the group met various Kashmir based trade groups, civil society and Bar Association who stressed on resolution of Kashmir Issue.
A statement issued by the Bar said that the group was honest in saying that they want sustained dialogue with all stake holder in Kashmir but “there should not be any condition from either side”.
They were staying at Guest House – Circuit House – here at Church Lane wherefrom they drove to Srinagar Airport around 2:30 PM today.
