Unprecedented Security, Shutdown Marks Jan 26 in Kashmir

SRINAGAR


Tight security has been put in place in the valley as India celebrates its 66th Republic Day Monday.


Thousands of extra police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the summer capital, Srinagar who have erected barricades on every road.


A complete shutdown is being observed in the valley as all shops and business establishment are closed while as roads are deserted.


The shutdown call has been given by all the separatist parties and groups.


Police and forces have been put on a high alert to thwart any attempt of militant attempt to disrupt the January 26 ceremonies.


The biggest function in the state was held at MA Stadium Jammu where the Governor NN Vohra hoisted the tricolour.


Bakhshi stadium Srinagar also witnessed a grand function.
