Oath must for Elected Members to be Called Legislators: Former LA Speaker

With Jammu and Kashmir’s 11th Legislative Assembly having completed its term, the former legislative Assembly Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone Wednesday said that the members of newly elected Assembly are not entitled to any perks including the security.


“We cannot call them legislators until they take oath which is only possible after the formal formation of the government. Though they are elected by the people but we cannot call them legislators until they take oath and participate in the legislature proceedings. The oath is only possible after the formal formation of the government,” Lone told KNS.


He said that they also are not entitled to perks including security and Constituency Development Fund (CDF).


“The newly elected members of Legislative Assembly are not entitled to any perks and security from the government as they are yet to take oath,” he said.
