NREGA Employees Demand ‘Job Policy’

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Dozens of NREGA contractual employees Tuesday held a protest demonstration in Lal Chowk demanding “Job Policy” in their favour.

Raising slogans of ‘Justice’, the aggrieved employees said that they have been engaged in NREGA – union scheme which is implemented in rural areas of India – for last more than seven years on contractual basis but government is not ‘announcing further job plan’ for them.

“We have been engaged in NREGA for last eight years in different capacities viz Junior Engineers, Village Level Workers, Clerks but government is serious in making our employment permanent or announcing any further job policy,” one of the protesting JEs said.

As the protesting employees were chanting “Insaaf Milay Ga – Kaam Karengay”, and tried to march towards Residency road, police bundled them in police vehicle and took them into preventive custody.
