One Way Traffic on Jammu- Srinagar Highway from January 23

According to Inspector General of Police (IGP), Traffic, J&K, Jammu one way movement of traffic will be in force on Jammu- Srinagar -National Highway (NHW-1A) with effect from 23.01.2015 till further orders, an official statement said.


“This has been necessitated in view of slippery conditions of NHW-1A coupled with rain, snowfall, poor road condition and triggering of landslides in Jawahar Tunnel-Lower Munda, Jawahar Tunnel-Banihal, Ramsoo-Ramban and Patnitop sectors.


The decision has been taken with a view to ensure safety and security of passengers on NHW-1 and hassle free movement of load carriers strict. Under this system, one way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa will be allowed on NHW-1A on alternate days,” the statement said.


However, the statement maintained, “daily programmes regarding up and down movement of traffic after assessing the situation and weather, road condition will be communicated through Traffic Control Units (TCUs) Jammu, Srinagar and Ramban to all concerned on daily basis in the evening road strips. The cut office timings for all kinds of vehicles (up and down traffic) have also been set up in place.”


Accordingly, on Up traffic days, all kinds of passenger service vehicles and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) (bound for valley from Jammu side) are required to cross TCP Nagrota by 1100 hours and TCU Udhampur upto 1230 hours only. Similarly, cut off timing for heavy vehicles and load carriers (valley bound) shall be 1000 hours at Nagrota and 1200 hours at TCP Udhampur, beyond which no vehicle shall be allowed to proceed for onwards journey towards Kashmir valley, the statement said.


“On Down traffic days all kinds of passenger service vehicles and LMVs (bound for Jammu) are required to cross TCP Pantha Chowk by 1000 hours. Lower Munda (Qazigund) upto 1200 hours and Jawahar Tunnel upto 1330 hours only for onward journey towards Jammu. Similarly, the cut off timing for heavy vehicles and load carries (bound for Jammu) shall be 0900 hours at Pantha Chowk, 1130 hours at Levdora (Qazigund) and 1300 hours at Jawahar Tunnel beyond which no vehicle, whatsoever, shall be allowed to proceed beyond lower Munda and Jawahar Tunnel for onward journey.”


The statement further informed that the IGP said, “no vehicle, whatsoever shall be allowed to ply from opposite direction under any circumstances.
