On Friday, a picture of a newborn baby lying on a road went viral on social media in Kashmir, sending shock waves among the netizens.
The news spread when the locals near Gunj Baksh Public Park, in Nowhatta in Srinagar’s old city found the lifeless baby near a washroom
Panicked, they informed the nearby police station.
Confirming the incident, a police official said the body of the newborn boy was found near washrooms. “Somebody had put the newborn near washrooms and he was dead.”
Terming it an unfortunate, the locals said “The baby was taken to the Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital, Rainawari where the doctors told us that he had died about 2-4 hours ago.”
Later local Auqaf along with police buried the abandoned baby in a nearby graveyard.
Police official told Kashmir Life that FIR No. 5/2018 under section 318 CRPC has been registered and the investigation has been started.
The incident of Nowhatta is not the first, there have been rising number of cases when the newborn babies, both male, and females are thrown in dustbins or near to the hospitals.
