Missing KU student: Maintain calm till police completes its investigation, KU appeals students

Kashmir University authorities on Wednesday appealed students to maintain calm inside the varsity, said it is equally concerned about the whereabouts of a second-semester student of Earth Sciences Department.

In a statement, a varsity spokesman said that a second-semester student namely Sameer Ahmad Dar from the Department of Earth Sciences is reported missing from 19th March 2018, after leaving from his residence in Kakpora, Pulwama.

“The University has already written to the Director General of Police on March 24, requesting him to have the whereabouts of the student ascertained at an earliest. The offices of the Hon’ble Chancellor and Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor have also been informed about the instant case,” said the spokesperson.

In an appeal to the students to maintain calm, the spokesperson said; “We request the agitating students to maintain calm and cooperate till the police ascertain the whereabouts of the student.”

Earlier, classwork was disrupted as scores of students marched on the campus holding placards and raising slogans to urge authorities to intervene and help in tracing their university mate.

The students held a sit-in in front of the Vice Chancellor’s secretariat.

Dar went missing on 19 March after he left his Kakapora home for the university.
