Srinagar
Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani offered the congregational Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid Hyderpora Srinagar, first time after a period of almost eight years.
Reports said that Geelani along with Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, a newly appointed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman and others aides left for the prayers around 1 pm.
A day before, DGP, SP Vaid told a local newspaper that Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik are free to go anywhere they wish to. He, however, said the trio should not make “anti-national” speeches or create a law and order problem.
Pertinent to mention, Geelani has been under house confinement for the past eight years and for the first time he was today allowed to offer Friday prayers.
The Hurriyat spokesman said Geelani was stopped 48 times from offering Friday prayers in 2017.
