Kashmir: Encounter underway in twin villages of Shopian; army says one militant killed

Gunfight rages in two separate villages of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.

Official sources said that two encounters started late last night at Dragad village of Kachdora and Sugan. Army’s 44 RR, 3 RR, 34 RR, SOG, and CRPF are part of the operation at both the places.

Two army men were injured and one militant was killed at Dragad while another army man was injured at Sugan. All of them have been evacuated to military hospital.

Police sources said that at least five militants believed to be trapped in Dragad  Kachdoora village of Shopian

However, militants have taken shelter in a house of an IPS officer of Sugan village currently posted outside.

Locals said there are two bodies in the compound of the house, though there was no official confirmation.

Army officials told Kashmir life one militant killed, operation underway.

SSP Shopian Shriram Ambarkar said that nothing can be said except that encounters are going on at two places (Dragad village and Sugan village).
