The workers and helpers claimed that in June 2016, the authorities had assured them their salary will be enhanced, but later there were no initiatives taken by them.

They threatened to lock down the centres if their demands are not fulfilled by the government at the earliest. “We have called to lock down all Anganwadi centres since the government is not serious about enhancing our salaries despite out tireless work,” said a protester in Islamabad.

The protesting workers alleged that they get the least share from state government as compared to Anganwadi workers of states outside Kashmir.

In Islamabad, the protestors blocked the main road outside DC office, hampered the traffic movement for hours.

The aggrieved workers in Islamabad said that the government is yet to release their pending wages, “we haven’t got our salaries since a very long time and as compared to other states, Kashmir has been discriminated by the officials. “Other states of India are getting incentives and bonuses every year but we don’t even get basic wages,” said Fahmeeda, a protestor.
