On October 6, State’s only listed company J&K Bank had its new boss as bank’s former senior most executive president Pervez Ahmad assumed the charge of Chairman and CEO of the bank.
The first active in-house chairman in the history of the bank, Pervez after attending the Board meeting early Thursday morning sent a message across the Board. The first message from new CEO led emphasis on taking everybody along to face the challenges.
He addressed the employees as “J&K Bank Family” and termed his appointment as being ‘fortunate’ event in his career.
In his confession, Pervez writes, “I find myself very fortunate to receive the honour of leading a team of very familiar people often branded as JK Bank Family.”
Expressing deep desire to mitigate problems of the staff, Pervez in his message resolved that “every such issue resultant into your wellbeing shall remain close to my heart and prioritized for utmost care and attention.”
Confident of dealing with the issues of financial health of the bank, Pervez rests his hope on the commitment, dedication, and loyalty of his staff towards the institution. “Your commitment, dedication, and loyalty washes away my fears and also musters great courage and confidence in me to take all such challenges head on.”
The last part of the first message of new CEO focused on the business as well. He talked about few challenges which needs immediate attention like that “asset quality, lack of proper systems and procedures.”
In the same message he passed directions of preparing the roadmap to deal with these issues in “time bound and efficient manner.”
Insiders say it is a different approach of new CEO, when Pervez talked about “opening up of two way communication system to listen to the employees of the bank” and added that “staff posted to Business units deserves the best attention and care.”
He also cautioned the employees of “maintaining the discipline, knowledge updation, providing best customer service.”
He also talked about his plan of “interacting with customers on regular basis and work on the feedback.”
He stressed of pledging to the task of “Mission image overhaul for reclaiming aspired glory of the past.”

Meanwhile, on October 5, 2016, hours before demitting the office of J&K Bank Chairman and CEO, Mushtaq Ahmad’s message flashed on the bank’s intranet. Writing to his staff of nearly 11000 personnel, the outgoing Chairman talked about his career in the bank right from his entry as Probationary Officer in 1972 to his appointment as Chairman after his retirement as Bank’s Executive Director.
In his last message to the staff, Mushtaq talked about the J&K Bank of 1970’s which had branch network of 55 and business of just Rs 24 Crore. He termed his predecessors “visionary” for having passed “great legacy to him.”
In a veiled defense of Bank’s ‘deteriorating’ financial health, Mushtaq says, “in 2010, when I took over as the Chairman and CEO of the Bank, the banking sector and economic environment in the country was much healthier than today. Banking Industry on the whole is passing through a turbulent phase and it may have to face tough challenges for some time more.”

However, he expressed hope of revival in future, “I am confident that next few years will witness marked improvement in economic conditions and business environment.”
He lauded the support of state government and also appreciated the loyalty of customers. He had led emphasis on wealth of human resource of the bank, “All this confidence and reassurance about the future of the bank is entirely premised upon the precious human resource of over 11000 employees with proven devotion and dedication.”
He had expressed satisfaction over handing over baton to in-house member Pervez Ahmad and prayed for “peace, prosperity and progress.”
