#Day88: Two Auto Rickshaws Set Ablaze in Sgr, say Police; 57 Persons Arrested In 24 Hours

J&K Police on Tuesday said that situation across the valley remained “by and large peaceful” today.

“However, two incidents of arson were reported from Srinagar and a stray incident of stone pelting was reported from Bandipora,” a police statement issued through J&K Information said this evening.

According to the statement, “normal” movement of people and vehicular traffic was observed in Srinagar.

“Shops in some parts of the city were open besides a large number of vendors were also on the streets. Scores of vehicles were seen plying in the main towns and on the inter district roads of the valley,” it said.

The statement said, “the miscreants in their attempt to disturb the situation set on fire two auto rickshaws, one at Bhagwanpora Kralkhud and another at Rainawari near Polytechnic College Saidakadal in Srinagar.”

Police have taken cognizance and launched search to nab those involved in these crimes, it said.

The police further said, “in its drive to curb the activities of the miscreants, police during the past 24 hours arrested 57 such individuals involved in various offences of creating disturbances in different part of the valley.”

Meanwhile, reports said that Pulwama district chief of Muslim League was arrested during a raid last night by police.

Identified as Abdul Rashid Dar (45), s/o Gh Muhammad Dar, he was arrested from Kulpora Pulwama around 12 O’ Clock during the intervening night of Oct 3rd and fourth. “He was not home,” Dar’s son said, “police have been raiding our home but last night they raided house of our uncle where Dar was and they arrested him.”

He said, “we don’t know the whereabouts of Dar yet.”

More so, a news report said that an All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) activist was arrested when he had gone to see his ailing daughter in Pulwama hospital today.

He was identified as Manzoor Baghat, a resident of Rahmoo Pulwama.
