The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, on Monday chaired an All Party Conference in Islamabad. In the meeting, it was observed, “Kashmir Issue and the sovereignty of Pakistan brought all political parties together”.

The Political and Parliamentary parties included, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari (Co-Chairman PPP), Syed Khurshid Ali Shah (Leader of Opposition), Moulana Fazal ur Rehman (JUI-F), Mehmood Khan Achakzai (PKMAP), Sadr-ud-Din Rashidi, (PML-F), Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, (NPP), Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, (ANP), Dr Muhammad Farooq Sattar and Dr Khalid Maqbool (MQM), Aitzaz Ahsan, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Ms Hina Rabbani Khar, Naveed Qamar, Ms Sherry Rehman and Farhatullah Babar (PPP), Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Ms Shireen Mazari and Engr Usman Khan Tarakai (PTI), Siraj-ul-Haq and Sahibzada Tariq Ullah (Jama’at-e-Islami), Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo and Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai (NP), Dr Ghazi Ghulab Jamal (FATA), and Kamil Ali Agha (PML-Q).

The Pakistan Prime Minister was assisted by senior members of the Cabinet, a joint statement issued by the PM’s office said later in the day.

After offering Fateha for the “Shuhada of Pakistan’s armed forces and the martyrs of Kashmir”, the meeting unanimously resolved, “the people, the government, the political parties and the armed forces of Pakistan are firmly united in supporting the Kashmiri people’s Right to Self Determination, as guaranteed to them in the UNSC resolutions.”

The statement said, “the meet recognized that Indian occupation forces have killed more than 110 innocent civilians, including women and children, and blinded over 700 people by use of pellet guns in last 87 days, we condemn the continued killings of innocent Kashmiris, which are a grave violation of human rights, and of international humanitarian laws.”

The meeting condemned what it termed as “unprovoked Indian aggression and repeated ceasefire violations” that pose a threat to regional peace and security.

“We reject Indian efforts to shift the focus from its brutal atrocities to suppress the indigenous uprising of the Kashmiri people for liberation from Indian occupation, to false claims of terrorism across the LoC,” the statement quoted the political leaders as having said in the meeting.

The Pakistan’s political establishment “deplored” the continued use of draconian laws against the Kashmiris and recurring curfews in Kashmir, which have aggravated the miseries of the local population in clear violation of all international human rights conventions. “We reject the Indian government’s ridiculous claims that Kashmir is an integral part of India, when India itself took the Jammu and Kashmir dispute to the UNSC, which accepted it as an international dispute between two sovereign UN members,” they said.

The statement further said that the All Party Conference (APC) condemned “India’s documented interference in Balochistan, a federating unit of sovereign Pakistan”. “We condemn the attempts by India to destabilise Pakistan as substantiated by the capture and confession of serving Indian naval officer from RAW, Kulbashan Yadav.”

They said, “we regret Indian designs to scuttle all diplomatic efforts for bilateral and multilateral dialogue, including the refusal to engage constructively at the SAARC forum.”

On the issue of Indus Water Treaty, the APC condemned the “stated intent by India to use water as a weapon” against the people, not only of Pakistan but of the region, in flagrant violation of its international treaty obligations. “Any Indian attempts at unilateral revocation of Indus Water Treaty shall be taken as an act of aggression,” they observed.

The AC rejected Indian claims of “carrying out surgical strike across the LoC”. The APC termed the claim as “blatantly false and brazen attempts at diverting international attention away from its atrocities in Kashmir”. However, it “appreciated the courage, valour and commitment of successive generations of Kashmiri people for their on-going struggle for self-determination as promised to them by the international community in UN Security Council resolutions.”

Further, the joint statement said that the APC applauded the “bravery and unwavering commitment of the armed forces of Pakistan for their befitting response to Indian aggression.”

The APC welcomed the decision of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to send a fact-finding mission to Kashmir. They also supported a similar mission as announced by the OIC.
