Intense clashes erupted between forces and people in the outskirts of Srinagar late on Monday evening.
Reports coming from Sozaith area of Budgam district said that announcements were made on loudspeakers that forces had raided the village. Sozaith, a semi-urban village borders Srinagar district from its West.
“Heavy contingents of Police and CRPF came around Maghrib Namaz and lobbed scores of tear gas canisters and released pepper and chilli gas,” a local said, “soon announcements were made on loud speakers and people came out of their homes to resist the vandalism and raids by the men in uniform.”
The local said that clashes continued for hours together “but forces were not allowed to enter the village”. On Sunday, evening, forces had lobbed tear gas canisters inside the heaps of harvest thus setting the ablaze.
Meanwhile, the locals at Elahi Bagh in Srinagar Monday alleged that CRPF men without any provocation broke the vehicles parked by the invitees who were attending the marriage function there.
The locals said there was a marriage function at Malla Bagh at Elahi Bagh and the invitees had parked their vehicles outside.
“The CRPF men were patrolling in the area at 6:45 pm. There was no stone pelting incident still they went berserk and smashed all the vehicles of the guests,” a news report quoted locals as having said.
