Taking serious note of “strict restrictions” on political and other activities of MLA Langate and AIP President Er Rashid in Jammu province, J&K High Court on Friday directed state government to allow Rashid to attend a marriage function in Kishtwar.
The court also sought detailed report from State DGP and Chief Secretary that why should Er Rashid be not allowed to carry out his political activities in entire Jammu province, a statement issued by AIP said on Saturday evening.
Rashid had filed a petition before the High Court seeking direction to the State Government to respect his fundamental rights and allow him to move freely in Jammu province.
“However, due to continuous boycotting to court proceedings by Bar Members, Rashid himself appeared for his case and pleaded the same before Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir,” the statement said, “He confronted Additional Advocate General Bashir Ahmad Dar and argued that state government has not been allowing me to visit any part of Chenab Valley, Pir Panchal region or any other place in Jammu province.”
He pleaded that the Jammu police didn’t allow him to attend marriage ceremony at Surankote and deported him back few months back, nor has been allowing him to attend social or religious functions.
He further informed the Court that despite bringing the matter in the notice of Governor, Assembly Speaker, Chief Secretary, State DGP and other top officials, nothing has changed on the ground and the act of police and civil administration is not only humiliating but violation of fundamental rights and is politically motivated.
“The Hon’ble Judge after hearing the arguments from both sides, passed the direction asking state government to ensure that Er Rashid attends marriage ceremony at his colleague’s family in Kishtwar and also directed state DGP and Chief Secretary to file their response to the petition that why Er Rasheed should not be allowed to visit Jammu province for political and other activities, when and wherever he desires,” the statement added.
