Sister duo among 3 minor Girls Drown in Kupwara

Three girls have reportedly drowned after a tractor they were travelling on met with an accident in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late Friday.

Reports quoting witnesses said that a tractor carrying children back home from fields lost its control while negotiating a sharp curve and fell into a pond at Khan Mohalla Bala in Deedikoot village, some 8 km from Kupwara.

The mishap left five girls struggling in deep waters after.

Witnesses said that Saleem Khan, who lost two daughters in the mishap, showed exemplary courage and jumped into the pond. But he was successful in rescuing only two girls and could not trace the other three girls.

Later, fire and emergency service was called but unfortunately its dewatering pump didn’t start for 20 minutes, reports quoting a resident.

Later, the bodies of three girls were fished out from the lake.

They were identified as Safia Saleem (9) and Sabia Saleem (10) – both sisters – and Insha Rashid (12).
