Amid massive pro-freedom and anti-India slogans Dooru area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district shut on Tuesday to mourn the Killing of Hizb divisional commander, Sameer Ahmad Wani, who was died in an encounter with forces in Kupwara district.
As the news of Sameer’s death reached his native village in Dooru, people came out on roads shouting massive slogans.
“Youths pelted stones on police and para-military forces, which resorted to massive teargas shelling and use of pellets,” witnesses said.
They also torched a police vehicle at Shiva area during the clashes, they said.
The vehicle was heading towards Kupwara where a Hizb commander Sameer Ahmad Wani alias Jan, a resident of Dooru, Sopore died in a gunfight at Nagri area earl today.
Meanwhile, reports from Kupwara said that youth were seen on motorbikes in Drugmulla, chanting pro-freedom slogans while the procession taking the body of the slain militant towards his native village in Sopore.
Police resorted to teargas shells and also fired several gunshots in air to chase away the protesting youth.
Sameer Ahmad Wani son of Muhammad Samandar Wani was active since May 12, 2014.
He is survived by his father, mother, brother and sister.
