SRINAGAR
The Government has decided to introduce proper house numbering system in Srinagar city to ensure exact identification and location of residential houses in various localities of the city.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been asked to take up the job of house numbering in a phased manner and cover all the residential colonies with proper house numbering within the municipal limits of Srinagar city, sources said.
The inevitability for proper numbering of residential houses, according to sources, was felt after the top bureaucrats shifted from the picturesque Cheshmashahi area to the normal residential areas in Srinagar.
“Most of these top bureaucrats found it very tough to guide their guests and acquaintances to their new addresses in the regular residential colonies of Nishat, Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar and Peerbagh where they are living now,” said a source in SMC adding that finding an address in these colonies was difficult as most of these residential areas don’t have proper house numbers.
According to sources, these top officers, including Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Navin Kumar Choudhary, who is also living in a normal residential area of Srinagar, flagged the issue of lack of house numbering and other civic issues of their respective localities with the Chief Minister.
It was accordingly decided that SMC will be asked to start numbering of all the houses in the municipal limits of Srinagar to create a proper address system.
According to the residents of these colonies, these top officers after arriving in their areas have started realizing the local civic problems and are working with the respectable citizens of the respective localities to get the same addressed.
“The presence of these officers in our localities is a welcome move as we are now getting the civic issues of our colony addressed very quickly through their intervention,” said a resident of Rajbagh area, where some of these top officers have shifted.
