The incidents of domestic violence have seen quite an upsurge in state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The J&K government on Thursday made said that 516 and 364 cases of domestic violence were registered in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
The report in form of figures was revealed in a written reply to NC MLA Mubarak Gul’s question in the Legislative Assembly.
The report said that district Jammu has witnessed the highest number such cases, showing 163 cases in the year 2014 and 95 in 2015, out of which 14 cases have not been admitted by culprits, 196 Challaned and 48 still under investigation for both the years.
However, Samba and Leh have clear records, while Budgam, Ganderbal, Kargil, Bandipora, Pulwama and Shopian have a very few registered cases.
Rajouri follows Jammu with a total number of 113 cases for the year 2014 and 2015.
Srinagar stands third in the list, witnessing an upsurge from 64 registered cases in 2014 to 92 registered cases in 2015.
Doda has shown a positive change from 14 registered cases in 2014 to 3 registered cases in 2015.
While giving details on militancy related incidents, it said that 151 incidents have taken place in 2014 and 143 in 2015, resulting in death of 57 civilians, 86 SF personnel’s and 218 militants and leaving 140 civilians and 187 SF personnel injured in during the time period.
However, 137 militants/ suspected militants have been arrested in the year 2014 and 2015.
While reporting on the ex-gratia granted to the victims, it said that Rs 1 lakh in case of death, Rs 75 lakh in case of partial disability, Rs 5000 in case of minor injury is being provided.
However, in case of damage to immovable property compensation is provided @ 50% on the assessed amount of damages.
The report further revealed that 199 persons from district Srinagar are availing the security cover, out of which 128 are categorised. Out of 71 uncategorised persons, 22 are availing the benefits of secured hotel accommodations.
Under J& K Public Safety Act 1978 and J&K Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1988, 94 persons were detained in the year 2015, out of which 66 persons have already been released, the government said.
