Two localities in Langate area of Kupwara district Tuesday clashed after the authorities started providing water supply to the residents of Humpora from Zagsandri water supply scheme.
Locals said that some residents from Zagsandri assembled at main road and didn’t allow PHE officials to connect the pipe lines for residents of Humpora, which was the direction of Deputy Commissioner.
“The two localities clashed over it during which the Humpora residents damaged pipe lines for other villagers too,” locals said.
Police, however, reached to the spot and scheduled time for a meeting between the two localities.
A police official while talking to KNS said that the meeting was held at 03:00 Pm between the two localities. “After the meeting one pipe line was connected while the other pipelines will also be connected soon,” he said.
Pertinently, the residents of Humpora are without water supply from past 25 years. “Earlier, the villagers were using hand pumps and streams but that was declared unsafe by the experts a few months back,” he said. (KNS)
