Speaker Legislative Assembly on Tuesday asked PDP-BJP Government to investigate the multi-crore Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah (BGSBU) scholarship scam.
The issue was raised by Langate Lawmaker, Engineer Rasheed, in the house during Zero Hour.
“You have invited students to house but what about Crores of rupees of students of BGSBU which has been swindled by its officials,” Rasheed asked the Speaker.
He referred to strike by students in 2015 which led to removal of then VC and Registrar.
Asking government to come clean on the issue, Rasheed told the house that inviting students would only be justified when justice is done in BGSBU case.
Speaker, Kavinder Gupta, on the occasion observed, “if money which belongs to BGSBU students has been swindled, government needs to take serious note of.”
He directed Minister concerned to look in to the matter and get justice done.
Meanwhile, NC’s Ganderbal Lawmaker, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, aske Education Minister about his assurances which he had made to family of two slain brother sin Ganderbal.
Two students, who were minors and brothers as well, died in a mysterious blast near their school at Baba Salina area of Ganderbal near Manasbal.
“Naeem Akhtar sahab had visited the school and assured the family that they will be given relief but it is yet to come,” Jabbar told the house, “when Edu Min can shed tears on a student who unable identify Ladoo, how did he forget these two slain students?”
He further revealed that the incident took place when teachers of the school were on strike. “What happened to investigation in this incident?” he asked the government.
PDP’s Karnah Lawmaker, Raja Manzoor, sought relief to families of two persons in his area.
He told the house that one Aijaz Ahmad Doori of Karnah drowned in to Qazi Bagh Nallah on Monday while a casual labourer in PDD was severely injured yesterday because of electric shock. Latter lies admitted in SMSH Srinagar.
Congress’ Nubra Lawmaker, Deldan Namgial, asked government to start local tourism in his area. He referred to Agenda of Alliance of PDP-BJP government which says that the present coalition government will open cross LoC trade and tourist points in J&K.
On this, Speaker Kavinder Gupta told MoS Tourism, Ms Priya Sethi, “do something to him (Deldan Namgial), he is a good person.”
When BJP’s Ravinder Raina stood to speak during Zero Hour, he raked up the issue of “increase in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) of Lawmakers”.
He was supported by all the MLAs across the party divide. Interestingly, Raina was condemned by NC and other Opposition lawmakers but Congress on Monday and today for his “bomb PaK statement made in the wake of Pampore attack” by him yesterday in the house.
Lawmakers stood up from the house and were asking FinMin Dr Haseeb A Drabu to respond. Raina came in support of Dr Drabu saying, “Finance Minister Sir is working with utmost honesty. No question over his integrity.”
Intervening in the matter, Deputy Speaker, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, told the house that MLAs “don’t take CDF home”.
“An MLA identifies any work and CDF money is only released by DC concerned; MLA can’t give this money to anyone in cash,” Gurezi told the house.
Responding to CDF concern of the Lawmakers, Dr Haseeb A Drabu told the house that CM Ms Mehbooba Mufti herself had assured that this will be looked in to. “We even discussed it in the cabinet,” Dr Drabu said, “we have two days (Assembly Session) yet; have patience and we are on it.”
