Hizb Divisional Commander Killed in Kupwara: Police

A top Hizbul Mujahideen militant has died in a gunfight that broke out between forces and militants at Nagri, Kupwara Tuesday morning.

Police identified him as Sameer Ahmed Wani, Hizb divisional Commander.

“The encounter started at 6 am and continued till 9 am,” said SHO Hatamulla.

Sources said, “the encounter was taken up after CARGO Srinagar had inputs about Wani’s stay in the area.” “CARGO Srinagar, SOG Kupwara and 47 RR were involved in the operation.”

Presently, post-mortem of the corpse is going on after which it will be handed over to the family.

Sameer Ahmed Wani, a wanted militant, was a resident of Dooru, Sopore.

Now that the encounter is over, the locals have resorted to stone pelting around the site of encounter.
