Jammu and Kashmir senior Congress leader and former Parliamentarian, Prof Saif Ud Din Soz, Friday took exception to opposition of CRPF to night flights at Srinagar International Airport.

“I take strong exception to CRPF raising objections in respect of Night Flights to and fro Srinagar Airport. My information is that the Defence Ministry has approved the proposition after a long period of discussions.

I had also raised this problem several times with Ministries of Aviation and Defence. Now, after all the stakeholders have accepted night flights, the objection raised by CRPF is untenable and unnecessary,” Soz said in a statement.

“I know from my personal experience that many times, Bureaucrats raise useless objections.”

“I will cite just one example of how things work in Delhi. It took me full two years to convince the Ministry of Defence, some years ago, to install SLS (Satellite Landing System) at Srinagar Airport. It could have been done much earlier even before I had raised this problem. If some people have a perception that the Airport at Srinagar is a Defence Airport, they must correct their perception and realize that the Airport is essentially meant for the people of J&K State. Yes, Defence will always carry importance, but it should never mean simultaneous neglect of the people,” he added.

Soz suggested Defence and Aviation Ministries to go ahead for starting night flights at Srinagar Airport, as early as possible. This facility should also be available at Jammu Airport, he said.
