Muhammad Yasir, a Kashmiri student who was attacked by local goons in Kazan area of Russia, died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in the country.
Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed the death of Kashmiri medical student who was reportedly in coma after attack by local goons.
In a tweet, Sushma Swaraj said, “I am pained to inform that Yasir-an Indian medical student from Srinagar has succumbed to his injuries in Russia.”
The incident had come to light after Murtaza Jaffar, a friend of Yasir, informed External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj through a tweet which read,”@SushmaSwaraj ma’am a Kashmiri medical student has been attacked by local goons in Russia, he is in coma. Lost his money n documents too. SOS.”
After the tweet, Sushma Swaraj had offered help and had tweeted, “I have got complete report on Yasir. An Indian Doctor is treating him in Kazan Trauma Centre in Russia.”
“Our Embassy officials will go and see Yasir in hospital tomorrow. We will bear all expenses on his treatment. I am pained to hear this. We will take this up with Russian authorities.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Yasir, a resident of Hassanabad in Rainawari area of Srinagar was pursuing studies from Russia and he was admitted in Kazan Trauma Centre, Kazan after the attack. (CNS)
