J&K Under Cold Wave; ‘Rains to Intensify from Saturday’

The Western disturbances arising from the Mediterranean Sea has plunged the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir under intense cold and grim situation, resulting into heavy rainfall throughout the state from last night.

Likewise, Chenab valley which includes Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban districts were also lashed by the heavy rainfall from the last night, gearing the life out of gear.

Streets in and around Kishtwar City were seen flooded due to overflowing of drains which is a common affair thereby making it difficult for the pedestrians to walk on roads.

Locals have urged the state government to chart out a “Master Plan” for Kishtwar city to avoid any eventuality.

Higher reaches of Sinthantop, Margantop, Marwah, Warwan, Padder, Phumber areas of Kishtwar district are believed to have experienced light snowfall due to sharp decrease in temperature.

Plain areas of Chenab valley like Doda, Bhaderwah, Gandoh, Kishtwar, Sarthal, Marwah, Warwan, Dachann, Padder received light to heavy rainfall.

On other hand, Meteorological Department Kashmir Friday said that Western Disturbances unleashed torrential rains on since midnight Thursday-Friday. “The rains are expected to intensify from Saturday.”

MeT officials told Kashmir Life that Valley is “likely to receive 15 – 20 mm rainfall” during the current spell.

During last year March, when rainfall sent Jhelum river swell with fury, the recorded rainfall had been 43.8mm.

“There is no need to get panicked but a level of caution have to be there always,” Director MeT, Sonam Lotus said.
