Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Advisor to Governor Monday said the festivals like Mahashivaratri (Herath) symbolize the values of piety, devotion, brotherhood and communal harmony in Kashmir.

“I feel nostalgic, while I greet you today. During my childhood days we would go to the Pandit neighborhoods and celebrate each other’s festivals with fervor,” Ganai said while interacting with Kashmiri Pandit residents of Ganpatyar here.

The festival of Mahashivratri, which is locally known as Herath, is being celebrated across Kashmir with religious fervor. The temple at Ganpatyar (Bhagwan Gopinath Ashram) wore a festive look as devotees made a beeline to join the special prayers.

While interacting with the devotees at the temple, Ganai extended his greetings to them and said the festival symbolizes true Kashmiriyat. He said such festivities strengthen the bonds of amity and brotherhood between various communities.

“Such festivals represent the composite ethos and rich cultural heritage of our society. This auspicious occasion would remain an everlasting identity of cultural binding, age-old amity, brotherhood and togetherness of the State,” Ganai said.

The Advisor was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone among other civil and police officers.
