Residents of vast Dangerpora belt have accused the government of denying them healthcare facilities as there is no hospital or primary health centre in the area.
In 2012, the foundation stone of Primary Health Center (PHC) was laid by the government. It is yet to be completed. They alleged that the work on the building of PHC is going on snail’s pace due to the callous attitude of the authorities.
During emergencies, they have to visit Sopore hospital, almost 5 kms away from Dangerpora for treatment which also lacks the facilities required in emergency situations.
Construction work on the hospital started in 2012, but till now it has not been completed. There are several reasons for that but the major one is the delaying of compensation to the landholder
“Former MLA Mohammad Ashraf Ganai and the present MLA Sopore Haji Abdul Rashid Dar hail from the same tehsil but they both failed to fulfill their promises,” a resident said.
The villagers added that the native MLA, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar promised us in the assembly election of 2014 that the hospital building will be functionalized within one year. But more than three years of his term completed and the area is still waiting to see the assurance is fulfilled.
Officials from health department told Kashmir life that the work on Primary Health Centre (PHC) tehsil Dangerpora was taken in 2012-13, and initially, the land of the hospital was not registered and due to the lack of funds, the building couldn’t be completed.
When contacted Chief medical officer Baramulla Dr Bashir Ahmad Chalku said “Lack of funds delayed the work for few years. In 2016, the work resumed and will be completed at the end of this year. He further said that they are still short of funds and conveyed to the government for the speedy release of funds so that hospital will be functionalized this year.”
