70-year-old man killed in LoC mine blast

Srinagar

A 70-year-old man was killed today when he accidentally stepped over a landmine near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Official sources said that Imam Din son of Kama of Solkah Bagial Dhara was injured critically in the blast and was taken to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

They said that the device exploded when he stepped over the landmine.

SSP Poonch Rajiv Panday while confirming the incident told GNS that the deceased was shepherding domestic animals when he stepped on the mine.

The landmines are laid along the LoC to prevent infiltration of militants from across the border and sometimes these get carried away due to rains. (GNS)
