Srinagar

Funeral prayers in absentia were held for Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) founder Ghulam Muhammad Butt who passed away in Rawalpindi Pakistan yesterday.

The prayers were held in Srinagar in which senior JKLF leaders and people in large numbers participated, said a JKLF spokesman, in a statement.

Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik paid tributes to the deceased leader.

In his condolence message, Malik said JKLF family has lost one of its prolific members and an affectionate elder. “We pray to Allah Almighty for his heavenly abode,” the spokesman quoted Malik as having said.

Butt hailed from Rajouri Kadal area of Srinagar and had migrated to Pakistan-administered-Kashmir in 1950, said the spokesman.

He said Butt was closely associated with Muhammad Maqbool Butt and founder of JKLF late Aman Ullah Khan and one of the key figures who played his active role in the formation of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).

“Butt was a businessman by profession and was always ready to contribute in every manner to the freedom movement. In 2007, he visited Srinagar and participated in famous long journey known as Safar-e-Azadi,” said the spokesman.
