Mirwaiz expresses anguish over dead, abandoned newborn in Srinagar

Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday expressed anguish over the incident of abandoned dead baby found near a park in Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

“Lost for words and shocked! Murder of a newborn and the body dumped in a park!where are we heading to as humans and as a society? How will our prayers bear fruit when such become our deeds! Where have we buried our conscience!!,” Mirwaiz wrote on Twitter.

A newborn baby was Friday morning found in Old City Srinagar near a public park creating outrage among the people. The locals have yet to determine whether the boy was born there, or he was transported there before being abandoned.

Reports said that a newborn baby boy was Friday morning found in Old City Srinagar near a public park inside a bathroom which created outrage among the people following after the picture of the boy has gone viral on social media websites.

An official said that during wee hours on Friday locals of the Ganj Bakhsh area of Nowhatta informed Police that a baby boy is abandoned in the area to which a police party went on the spot and took the custody of the baby. The baby was shifted to JLNM Hospital Rainawari where doctors declared him dead, he said and added, after legal formalities the baby was handed over to local Mosque committee members for last rites, adding, a case under 5 under 318 RPC has been registered in this regard.
