Hurriyat Conference (m0 chairperson and Kashmir’s chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday appealed the United Nations Human Rights Group, Amnesty International and International Committee of Red Cross to take strong note of the torture and severe beating of Kashmiri prisoners by the jail authorities at Tihar Jail.

Mirwaiz said that the torture of Kashmiri inmates is a clear violation of fundamental, human and legal rights of prisoners.
Mirwaiz tweeted: “Physical torture of Kashmiri inmates in #TiharJail, is a clear violation of fundamental, human and legal rights of prisoners who have been subjected to severe beating by the jail authorities. we appeal @UNHumanRights, @amnesty @ICRC to take strong note & intervene in this matter (sic).”
Pertinently, a unit of Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP), a committee constituted by Delhi High Court has found, has allegedly beaten as many as 18 jail inmates of Tihar jail, among whom most are Kashmiri prisoners including the son of Syed Salahuddin named Shahid Yousuf.
Yesterday, the Delhi High Court directed Tihar jail authorities to get all the victims specially treated at AIIMS Delhi.
The court will listen to the proceedings of the case after three weeks following another report by a newly constituted committee which is led by a district and sessions judge.
Taking cognizance of the alleged attack on Kashmiri prisoners, J&K chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, has taken up the case with the government of India and has sought action against the accused.
