IUST holds daylong programme on Waste Management

As part of waste management awareness programme among the faculty and students, Mantaqi Centre for Science and Society and Department of Mathematical Sciences (Environmental Science Division), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized a daylong programme on waste management and cleanliness drive, on Wednesday at the Varsity Campus, a spokesperson of the University said in a statement.

Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Qureshi, Dean Academic Affairs IUST, who was also the chief guest on the occasion highlighted the effects of pollutants and their chemical reactions on different life forms of earth. He brought religious and moral insights into the discussion in light of the teachings of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) depicting cleanliness of our surroundings and of oneself and how that can protect our environment.

Manzoor Ah Tarray (Ex-Chief Sanitation Officer) Srinagar Municipal Corporation gave a presentation highlighting the importance of sanitation and waste management practices that need to be incorporated at domestic, municipal and individual level. Depicting the role of municipal corporations in waste management and its proper disposal an on-site demonstration of waste collection, segregation and treatment were performed by Tarray. Further, the role and active participation of youth in dealing with the waste as per the prescribed rules and regulation of SPCB and CPCB was emphasized.

The programme ended with a cleanliness drive within campus which was attended by both faculty members and students.
