“As the clock passes 5 in the evening the traffic gets off the road, causing immense hardships to the passengers,” said Altaf Ahmad, a resident of Narbal.

He said that although some Sumo and autorickshaw run during evening hours they demand extra fare.

“I am a labor by profession and my earning is not much, how could I pay Rs 40 to 50 fare every day from Lal Chowk to Narbal, I can’t afford it,” Ahmad said.

Another resident from the Narbal said that that they pleaded several times to the higher-ups in this regard but nothing has been done.

“We brought the issue in the notice of the concerned officials several times but no concert steps have been taken in this regard,” he said.

Residents of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal said that they are facing tremendous hardships due to the non-availability of the passenger buses in the late hours and blamed the concerned department for their sufferings.

“In this winter season the authorities should have enabled extra bus services but they seem to be in slumber, the last bus travels from Soura to here is around 5:15 pm and afterwards we are forced to travel in Sumo with paying extra fare,” said a resident from Ganderbal.

They said that the authorities should look into the matter at the earliest so that we would not suffer.

“They (Authorities) should come out from this slumbering state and ensure more passenger buses in the area in the late hours,”

Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Pampore area of Pulwama district has same concern. He said that despite residing on the highway, it is very difficult for him to get a vehicle.

“It is very difficult to get a space in the vehicle from Lal Chowk to Pampore in the evening hours as they get filled within no time due to the shortage of the vehicle,” he said.

The residents of Lal Bazar Srinagar have crying over the issue from many decades.

Though the road leads to Dargah Hazratbal, University of Kashmir and few other important offices, but there are huge lapse in the public transport system.

Without even Sumo service, the route takes passengers not less than two hours to reach Lal Chowk or vice-versa.

The resident allege that before it is dark in the evening, the public transport is off from the roads.

RTO Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Rather while talking to Kashmir Life assured that the problem will be solved very soon.

“It is genuine demand and hopefully in the coming days more busses will operate in the various parts of the valley,”
